Windows 10: can't resolve backup error code 0x81000031

When in windows 10 backup setting and clicking backup now nothing happens other than error code 0x81000031. Have tried various recommended fixes including PC reset which also does not work. Help please.

I suggest you to make sure “Volume shadow copy Service” is enabled.

a. Press “Windows key + R” from the keyboard.

b. Type “services.msc” without quotes in the “Run” Window and hit
Enter.

c. Search for “Volume shadow copy" service.

d. Right click on it and select “Start” option.

e. Close the “Services” Window.

f. Check if the issue persists or not.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, I suggest you to disable Antivirus software and check if it helps.

1) Please make sure to re-enable Antivirus software after troubleshooting steps.

2) Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable or uninstall your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable or uninstall it to install

Bit-blocker is ON.

Shadow Copy is RUNNING.

Not sure what constitutes a "Custom Library". I have some important software on one 500gb external drive. (Quicken)

I have tried backup with Antivirus OFF.

Have formatted the backup destination drive (external 2tb) twice.

Still get:

"Windows backup failed while determining libraries location of one of the users included in the backup.

Details: The device is not ready. Error code 0x81000031"
