Windows 10: Can't retrieve Photos

Hi! My PC just updated Windows 10 and now I can't retrieve any of my photos properly to insert into an email/file. If you just go to the Photo app you can see your pics normally but when you call it up the pics have been replaced with a camera icon and the file # underneath. Picked one and inserted it and it came through as a picture but how can you tell if its the right one. Don't want to waste my time doing that and then deleting it until I get the right one. Have tried all the options on the Photo app but nothing seems to work. Not an expert and would appreciate some feed back in fairly basic lingo please.

Is there anyway to retrieve possibly deleted photos or photos that are present on my backup drive?

 

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

I have and was sending photos to my printer , then wanting to retrieve them, find they've vanished and PDF files have arrived ???
