  1. Can't safely remove Seagate Expansion drive connected using USB3.0SS

I've got a Seagate Expansion drive connected to my PC using a USB A - USB 3.0 micro B cable.
I'm unable to find any "Safely remove" option, and at one point when unsafely removing I got a blue screen.
    I've tried:

    • The tray. Nothing there.
    • Running "rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll", and the drive does not show up there.
    • Looking in device manager. There it shows under "Disk drives" as "Seagate Expansion SCSI Disk Device" and I see that under "Storage controllers" I've got a "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device".
    • If I on the device go right click, "Properties", "Hardware", select it, "Properties", "Policies" it has no "Removal policy" options. Only "Write-caching policy" options.
How do I make Windows understand/handle this drive as an external drive that can be safely removed?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 File Explorer: Hard Drives displayed twice;

I am running Windows 10 Pro. File Explorer is showing hard drives twice in the Navigation Pane; once under "This PC" and again under Desktop (same tree level as This PC.) Note the drives are listed out of order under Desktop.

Three drives only appear under "This PC".

This does not happen in the right hand side of File Explorer window when "Desktop" is selected in the Navigation Pane.

Any clue as to why this is this happening and how to fix it?

    Example:

  3. Unable to access external hard drive

I assume this is related to this issue.

On 25th December one of my external drives (Seagate 3Tb Expansion Desktop Drive) was reported in the Action Centre as needing to be "Scanned for Errors".

The Windows 10 tool for fixing the drive tells me it can't fix it - it doesn't explain why.

The Command Prompt CHKDSK tells me it can't fix the drive because:

"The type of file system is RAW

CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives".

Yet Disc Management tells me the Drive is NTFS

I can access the drive without any apparent issues, it just appears that Windows and CHKDSK are convinced it's faulty.

None of my other external drives, (Samsung Story Station, Seagate Expansion Desktop, Seagate Backup Plus, Toshiba Canvio) report any errors, not even the ones connected via the same USB Hub.

    I'm running Windows 10 Pro

    Version 1607

    OS Build 14393.576

  6. Better yet here's how to check for yourself if your device tells Windows if it's removable. Download USBTreeView. Select your drive and check capabilities and status in the Device Descriptor.

  7. So I've been testing this for a while now, and I got it working on several other computers.
Somehow it seems to have something to do with a specific set of USB 3.0 ports on the back of my computer. The one I was using didn't give me a "Safely remove" option, but when testing some of the others the option appeared.
