Can't see other computers and devices in network now.

Concerning my home network. Just updated a Dell Optiplex 7010 with SSD, memory and a clean install of Win 10 , in an existing network of 3 PC's and a few devices. I could always see everything in the network previously to updating. I have had internet connection immediately after the install and still do. I have tried resetting the network on Win 10 PC after trying many of the YouTube & Google articles; checking services settings, workgroup, discovery. On the WIn 10 PC, all i see is itself. From all the other existing PC's, i see everything on the network, EXCEPT the new WIn 10 PC. Also, when I plug (wired) in a Win 10 laptop it does not appear on the new Win 10 PC network, but is visible from the other Win 7 PC's. The laptop was purchased new with Win 10 as OE. In comparing the WIn 10 PC to the Win 7 PC's the only thing that is different and not familiar with is; Win 7 shows connected to LAN Network/Work/Workgroup and the Win 10 shows Ethernet/Private/ Workgroup. Is this different connection type of just a change in terminology? Maybe I made a wrong selection when I installed WIn 10?

Been a couple of weeks and still no answer found, maybe can find help in the community?

    Thanks, Dan

    :)

2 of 3 computers in home network only show multimedia devices

    Hi

OK I understand now, This is not an issue with devices appearing as media devices, it is an issue where devices are simply not appearing in the network list.

Where do you get the "access denied, contact your network manager"?

    I would suggest updating to 1809 - 17763.253
Just to ensure that you are at the latest release and updates installed.

As you will have found, there are many posts about this issue and unfortunately there are many proposed resolutions. Enabling SMB 1.0 and the Services listed below normally resolves the issue.

    • Function Discovery Provider Host - Automatic
    • Function Discovery Resource Publication - Automatic
    • DNS Client - Automatic
    • SSDP Discovery - Automatic
    • UPnP Device Host - Automatic
Older and non compatible devices need SMB 1.0 to be visible on the network and this would need to be enabled on all devices as well not just the PC you are describing.

    To recap....

Can you see all devices in network devices as you would expect on the other PCs/Laptops?
Can you ping the devices by IP and by Name? Can you access the PCs via command line \\PCName\Share
    ------
If you have ensured SMB 1.0 is enabled, SMB Direct, as per the image image below

Can't see other computers and devices in network now. [IMG]

Then I can only suggest corrupt registry settings.
try running sfc /scannow from an admin command prompt to check for any integrity violations.

then try and force the settings again, try clearing the the SMB 1.0 and SMB Direct settings completely and restarting, then select them as per the image above followed by a restart.

    Please post back with updates

  3. Network Communication problem with multiple computers

    Hi Jay,

    Thank you for responding.

I suggest you to try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: Network discovery might be blocking you from seeing other computers and devices on the network. Check if the Network discovery is turned on. If the network discovery setting on your computer is set to off, you
won't see other computers and devices on the network.

Steps to Turn on network discovery.

    • Press Windows key, type sharing and click on
      Manage advanced sharing settings.
    • Under Private, Network discovery, check mark the option
      Turn on network discovery.
    • Try the same on all the computers connected to the network.

Method 2: If the issue still persists, run
    HomeGroup troubleshooter and check.

HomeGroup troubleshooter finds and fix problems with viewing computers or shared folders in a HomeGroup.

    • Press Windows key, type troubleshooting
      and select it.
    • Click on View all in the left pane and click on
      HomeGroup
      .
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of this issue for further assistance.
