can't see second monitor after last forced update

I have a Toshiba Laptop which I updated from 7 to 10 a few months ago.
I have a Dell Monitor plugged directly into the laptop and an NEC monitor plugged into a Toshiba docking station, which also has inputs for a wireless mouse and keyboard. The docking station connects to the laptop via USB.
All worked fine until yesterday morning, when I woke to find that Microsoft had updated and rebooted my laptop. Now, the NEC monitor doesn't work.
All power and connections are fine, and the docking station works because the mouse and keyboard work.
I've swapped the Dell and NEC monitors, and whichever one goes directly into the laptop works fine. The one into the docking station doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

    :)

  2. can i move the action center to my second monitor?

If this stance could be reconsidered that'd be nice. I can't see why for the life of me you would allow me to move it all to my secondary monitor and then force action centre on my main monitor.

My main monitor is where the full screen games run and basically I'm forced to just turn off Action Centre notifications. I bought a second monitor for a reason, please let me use it.

Reinstall the software for the video chipset.

I went to Device Manager and under "Monitors", found two listings for "Generic PnP Monitor" and updated to update driver software. In both cases, it was already up to date.

Next I went to Display Adapters and found "Intel HD Graphics" and "Toshiba Video Dock". Again, attempting to update showed both already with the most current.

    So, no luck yet.

Just noticed that speakers, also plugged into docking station, don't work, though do if plugged directly into laptop. So it appears the problem is with the docking station, although the wireless keyboard/mouse work. Still trying...

Again reinstall the driver for the video chipset. This has nothing to do with the monitors. The controlling software is what allows you to choose between multiple monitors, along with extending the desktop. If the docking station is the problem, then most likely it is not compatible with Windows 10. Check the manufacturer website to see if they have updated drivers for Windows 10. If not, you will need to reinstall Windows 7 if everything worked fine with that OS and stay with Windows 7 for that machine.

Go to the Device Manager, Expand Display, Right click the Intel HD Graphics device, choose Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver to the driver that was workikng.
Or go to the Toshiba driver site Official Toshiba Support | Toshiba Type in the FULL model # on the bottom sticker of the laptop (eg) L655-xxxx-xxx Choose your version of Windows (ie) 32bit or 64bit and download the Video Driver for your model.

Re-installing the video chipset drivers for the laptop GPU won't fix anything. The docking station has its own onboard GPU that interfaces via USB. You need to re-install the driver package for the USB docking station. It there is a compatible driver, that should restore the Monitor and speakers functions. The docking station GPU will show up as a separate entry under, Display Adapters in Control panel. It is in effect, a second video card.
