Windows 10: Can't set up Win 10 Fax

I am trying to set up the Windows 10 desktop Fax app and can't for the life of me figure out how to specify the fax modem/server. I have an Epson WorkForce 323 AIO with the fax included and Win 10 has the FAX in the Devices AND PRINTERS. I have tried all the combinations of modem and server and the asst versions of name and my home LAN network address for my Epson and can't find anything that Windows likes. What am I doing wrong? How do I correctly set up this desktop app, please?

Sorry and thanks for trying to help. I found the problem: Win 10 knew the hardware as
a printer, but not as a fax, when I set up Win 10 initially.
I went to the Epson web site, found a Win 10 Fax utility
for the device, downloaded and installed. Now I can Fax. -Marty

Ok, so under tools, fax settings, what device is shown in device name, and is the "Select fax device" button available or greyed out?

If available, what options are given?

Then, in Tools, fax accounts, what information have you here?

The Epson already has that capability in the software that it comes with. If you have Digital/VoIP phone service, some All in One units do not play nicely with that type of service. Microsoft's fax service is meant to be used with conventional modems, not printing devices.

 

You have to add an account in the software, have you tried that?

At that point in the setup it may let you go to the address of the Epson.

Also, if you can post screenies of the properties/ports of the Epson fax in devices and printers please ...

It's going to come down to whether or not we can get it to see the Epson, if not then I'd recommend using their SW, which would likely be as easy to setup.

Thanks to "bro67" for this comment, "...Microsoft's fax service is meant to be used with conventional modems, not printing devices. I have also read that Win 10 isn't intended for VoIP phone lines either (my situation).

At any rate, I have discovered Epson's FAX software so that I can do my faxing from my PC and it has tested out fine. I'll use that...or a cloud-based service. My needs are minimal.

WeyBrew I use myfax.com. I pay $10 a month for basic low volume faxing. With the Brother app on my iPhone, for the Brother Laser/Copy/Scanner, I can scan in, then pass the scan over to the My Fax app and send it off that way. It is a lot easier then trying to go back and forth between the laptop and printer. If you have a tablet, Android OS or iOS device, I do believe that Epson offers the same type of app for Scanning and Printing.

 

Thanks again, bro67. My fax needs are so minimal that FaxZero does it for me. Between the Epson built-in and FZ I'm covered. I was just curious when I saw FAX as an installed Win 10 printer. Regards...

 

It is installed by default with Windows. They will probably never get rid of that piece of Legacy software for a long time. They got rid of Hyper Terminal, but still hanging onto something that no one has used in ages.

I just go in and remove that item from Windows Features in Programs and Accessories and disable the appropriate services.
