Windows 10: Can't stop Windows 10 update for running and it freezes at 84%

I'm looking for help, I have an Acer Predator G9-593, running Windows 10 Home, version 1607, build 14393.2214. Last fall when it tried to update it would freeze at 84% every time, so I asked for help at that time, and didn't really find much, so I ended up disabling update, which allowed me to keep using my laptop and playing my games etc.


Then about 4 days ago it started again, and it still freezes at 84%,, I went in using gpedit and system and disabled update again, set my connection as metered, and set my active hours, and it still tries to update even during the active hours when I'm using my laptop.


I have no objection to having the update if I could get it ti install, according to Acer it's compatible up to Version 1803.


So I.m hoping one of you nice Microsoft people might be able to help me, because now every time I want to us my laptop I have to turn it on while holding down the F11 key and going into the Advanced options and rolling back the Feature update, because I did discovered thru process of elimination that it's something in the Feature update that is causing the issue.

Latest Windows Update gets to 84% then the cursor freezes.

Latest Windows Update gets to 84% then the cursor freezes. Left it overnight - no change. Rebooted and it gets to 84% again then freezes. F8 doesnt seem to work to try safe mode. Any sugegstions would be most welcome.

That doesn't stop windows update from grabbing them on next run, at least it didn't back in the RTM days. It simply stops a secondary process from installing them immediately.
