Windows 10: Can't turn off tapping for Synaptics SMBus TouchPad on HP laptop

I want to disable tapping on my touchpad, because it keeps getting in the way when I am typing on the keyboard.


I tried following various instructions online, but they don't work for me, namely because the option to turn off tapping doesnt seem to be there. When I go into my touchpad settings, all I can do is change the tapping sensitivity.


Here is my system info:

OS: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18362.356]

system model: HP 250 G6 Notebook PC

Driver info:

name: Synaptics SMBus TouchPad

thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, the first two options don't work for me. When I go into settings > touchpad, it just gives me the option to change the tapping sensitivity. When I go into device manager, under Human Interface Devices, there is no touchpad device. Under Mice
and other pointing devices there is Synaptics SMBus TouchPad, however there is no option to disable device, like for other devices, just to uninstall device. I tried uninstalling, however when I restart it is automatically back.

Also, I'd like to clarify my problem. I don't want to disable the touchpad completely, as I still need to use the mouse, however I want to disable tapping to click, as that gets in the way. I'm pretty sure I disabled it before, but maybe a new update caused
this to change.

Thanks for the suggestion. I used system restore to the oldest point I could. I also changed the driver to a previous version, however I still can't find in settings the options to turn off tap to click for my touchpad.
