Windows 10: Can't turn on Windows Defender - "Your IT Administrator has limited access to some areas of...

I downloaded the latest version of Win 10 and was disappointed that I cannot turn on Windows Defender Security. Same message as many others: "Your IT Administrator has limited access to some areas of this app, and the item you tried to access is not available. Contact IT Help Desk for more information." My laptop is not on a network,I am the sole user and I do not have any other anti-virus apps installed. Where do I go now please?

I don't think you can access gpedit.msc in the consumer versions--you need Pro or Enterprise.

 

I can't turn on Windows Defender Real Time Protection

Steps to Disable Windows Defender

• Go to Run.
• Type in ‘gpedit.msc’ (without quotes) and hit Enter. This will open up a new menu, where group policy editor options are listed.
• Head to the ‘Administrative Templates’ tab, located under ‘Computer Configuration’.
• Click ‘Windows Components’, followed by ‘Windows Defender’.
• Find the ‘Turn off Windows Defender’ option, and double-click it.
• Click "Enabled and then OK.
• Exit GPE menu.
