Windows 10: Can't unpause windows updates?

This is more of an answer for those that seem to have this hang up lately. I had accidently paused updates and had no options to unpause them.


Turns out what I did to fix this in Windows 10 Home Basic was:

1. In Updates, go into advance options and turn off all the toggles, and restart the PC.
2. Go back into advance options turn all the toggles back on other than downloading over metered connection, restarted PC one more time.
3. It should show the option to Resume update downloads. hit that and just let it do its thing.

For whatever reason Updates can get stuck and sometimes we make an error of what button we tried to hit especially on smaller screen spaces. In some cases you only have to restart the PC once to fix this hang up and hit resume, but that is one solution.


Suggestion for Microsoft techs.

1. Make the Pause button also able to Unpause.
2. Also make the ability to change paused update more user friendly where we can select the specific hour in all versions of Windows 10.

You actually had a great OS with Windows 7 for once in a very long time that wasn't such a resource hog. Please consider returning back to that Windows 7 model with something like Windows 11 and cut out all the excessive bloatware? Thanks.

unpause updates

I want to unpause windows updates, but the system will not let me. The best I can do is to set the date to tomorrow

 

Pause updates unpaused itself

Running the latest Creator's Update and my paused updates just unpaused themselves.

The PITA factor with this OS's updating just continues to grow. Anyone else have their paused updates 'unpaused' by this monstrosity of frustration?

PS I paused from advanced settings under Windows Update Settings and it should have had more than month of limit before I 'had' to unpause. And I never turned off or restarted my machine.

 

Windows 10 home 1903 does not have an "unpause" update button

Out of curiosity, I clicked "pause updates" after upgrading to v1903. Now I see I don't have an "unpause updates" button on this computer like i do on my other computer. I set the date to resume updates to July 8, now this morning I see it was advanced
to July 9. It's telling me updates are available, but I guess I can't get them unless I can unpause. Any suggestions?
