    Can't update Defender virus definitions


    I keep getting the following error if I try to update the virus definitions in Microsoft Security Essentials "The virus and spyware definitions didn't update (Date and Time) because of an internet or network connectivity problem.

    If I try to update through windows update I get the error 0x80070643, I have downloaded and installed other windows updates today. So, it isn't that all updates aren't being seen or can't be downloaded or installed.

    I have tried running sfc multiple times, and once it said it corrected errors, but since then no issues are reported.

    I tried running disk cleanup to remove update files, etc. and still get the error

    I have downloaded the update manually, but when I run it it doesn't seem to do anything and the virus definition remains at the old version.

    Not sure what else to do to update the definitions.
