Windows 10: Can't Update to Windows 10 2004 - Error Code 0xc1900223

Every time I try to update my desktop to Windows 10 v2004, it fails after the "Getting things ready" phase with the error code "0xc1900223". Apparently this code implies that it couldn't connect to Microsoft's update servers, but I have no issues getting other updates. It's just the feature update that fails. It only lets me retry the update every few days, and in the mean time the "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page." image comes up again (it is absent when it lets me retry the update). It'll disappear every few days, allow me to try the update, fail, and then show this image. It's been like this all of June.

Meanwhile my laptop apparently STILL isn't ready for the update.

Is this some kind of widespread issue or am I just very unlucky? Most people got the update a month ago...

I have just reinstalled Windows, I had problems with updates before and though the fresh install would help but I am still getting errors.

My windows is activated.

 

May 2004 fails with Erroe: 0xc1900223

Simply searching for that error number gives this:

which might suggest you have a problem connecting to MS servers- or maybe not.

- this could well prove very optimistic.

Note first that there are known bugs in 2004 which may or may not affect you after a successful update.

It might be wise to wait a while before upgrading e.g. until after the first major update is released.

Considering the article and your error number, you could try upgrading manually- i.e. download the iso file for 2004, upgrade using that without accepting updates at the same time.

Looking at your disk, you have no recovery partition. Whilst that can be the case with MBR installations, I'm unfamiliar with whether the seeming lack of space for one might cause a problem.

How much free disk space do you have on C: ?

A standard recommendation - more particularly when ugrading e.g. from '7 to '10, say, is to remove 3rd party AV. You could research as to whether this may be an issue in others' experience of upgrading to 2004.
