    Can't update Windows 10 Anniversary

    I recently encountered a virus right around the time Windows 10 was updated to Windows 10 Anniversary. I had originally upgraded my Windows 8.0 to Windows 10 (beta), but my Activation code didn't work so I had to get windows to help me, and that's when Windows 10 Anniversary was installed. Before that my computer ran beautifully. All my programs worked with no issues, never issues installing stuff. Now, I have non-stop issues. I went to check for updates and realized that there hadn't been any updates done to date so I tried. this is the error message that persists.

    There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80240442)

    I have been trying different things for about a week now with no success. I followed countless "outdated" tutorials on what to do but nothing works. Tonight I finally found something recent, I thought it was on this forum but I can't find it again, but I will send a screenshot of the "ADMIN Powershell" commands I sent;

    The Echo off at the bottom wasn't there before, I tried to repost it a 2nd time and it still didn't work. I think it actually changed the error code to
    0x8024401c

    But when I tried the fix for that, it went back to the first error. I have a feeling that this error is also blocking me from installing Microsoft Office. I'm hoping once I can update my PC correctly, whatevers causing this problem will also fix that one. Any help I can get here would be very very appreciated. So far, 0 updates. Thanks!

    :)

    Windows 10 Enterprise anniversary update

    Hi, I am using Windows 10 Enterprise (build 10586.420) now and I can't see the anniversary update in windows update now.

    I have tried windows upgrade assistant but it says I need to contact my system administrator.

    I heard some people said that windows 10 Enterprise can't receive anniversary update from windows update, and the only way is to download the iso and reinstall. Is it true?

    OK. I tried that. I don't get an option to download the ISO. These are all the applicable screenshots;

    This is the file I downloaded

    This is what it showed when I ran the file.

    I ran WINVER to check, because it instantly showed that last message. Obviously, it never updated.

    That link at post 2 doesn't give you right link for the ISO. See this tutorial https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9...-download.html The ISO download link is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft.../windows10ISO/

    I don't know which English version you need in Canada. I do know for the UK I have to choose English International. You might even need a French version?

    Can't update Windows 10 Anniversary

    Thanks Steve, I'm downloading it now. For some reason I have to keep switching between Edge and Firefox to get these DL links to open, but at least its working so far. I assume this ISO is the most current updated version of Windows 10 Build 1607, and if so I'm pretty confident this will work. Hopefully it fixes some of these issues I've been having. Later Steve. I'll keep you posted either way. Thanks again!

    Hey,

    I just finally managed to get the anniversary update done. Tried all I could, even running from DVD and it'd never work.

    Then I physically ripped out all drives except C and while at it also in-installed ALL motherboard (ASUS) drivers and Chrome which has been crashing regularly...and lo and behold it FINALLY went thru!

    You can use MiniTool Partition Wizard to check if you have any active partitions on your other drives since that can confuse the Windows installer and boot process. If so, set them inactive unless you have fancy dual boot system and need an active partition on anything other than your system drive for some reason.

    OK. I tried this and it just keeps resetting itself. As soon as it comes down to updating, its flashes the following message then resets instantly;

    RESTARTING WINDOWS 10 SETUP
    The updates are installed, but Windows 10 Setup needs to restart for them to work. After it restarts, we'll keep going from where we left off.

    I tried it 5x. It just doesn't want to update. Period!

    Before I ever saw this message, I will acknowledge that I did have another active drive installed at the time of initial install, but it has been removed for a week now and i'm still getting blocked. Thanks for the reply though!

    Can't update Windows 10 Anniversary

    Hi Deeaa,
    Are you saying you reformatted the drive fully and did a clean restart? That's which way I'm leaning. When I initally installed Windows 8, the reason I had to get Windows Tech support to install Win10 is because Windows 8 would not let me update even at that point at the problems persist. I hate to do it again, but do you think I should just maybe create a new bootable ISO drive, put the newest Windows build on there and start fresh? Then install my Asus drivers and see what happens? The pain of doing that again is almost unbearable but I will do it if there is a high % chance it will work. Should I do that, or is that going overboard?

    I should say that one of the common fixes was perform a clean boot, I would HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES, and disable everything else. Problem was I would never have internet. I played with leaving different things activated, but no matter what, no internet whenever I did that. I tried to cherry pick out anything that could have anything do do with my network drivers but I didn't recognize anything. This is a screenshot or 2 of the non-microsoft services I was disabling. I would love to try the clean boot thing but without any internet, it makes it tough to update.

    It seems that it is very particular about functioning well indeed...and while I did finally manage to update by removing all extra drives as well as a couple of dozen programs (I believe most importantly motherboard's programs because they include stuff that accesses low level functions such as HW clock speed adjustment etc.)...there are now issues.

    In my audio program (Cubase) none of the old projects open any more; the program just crashes. I can build a new project just like the old ones, but can't open old ones. This is a major setback and almost would have been the same for me to reinstall from scratch really, as I have to rebuild all projects anyhow. Means hours and hours of work on end. Thank you MS!!!

    Other than that the machine works well.

    That's what you get for installing ASUS drivers in the first place, and all drivers like that. The next time I do a complete overhaul of the system I will install NONE of the stuff like motherboard drivers and display card drivers, but let Windoze install its own. Seems like the only way to ensure everything really works well.

    Hi.
    Just wondering what infection you had (did you identify it?) and if you are absolutely sure the system is clean now? Because that error code indicates that you can't connect to the Windows Update servers (a typical effect of an infection).

    What tools did you run to get rid of the infection?
    Have you run sfc /scannow or any DISM commands to try and get the system back in shape?
