Windows 10: Can't upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro after purchasing a new PC; Windows 11 Pro DVD came...

Hi there,I bought a brand new PC and ordered Windows 11 Pro. The PC came with Windows 11 Home installed and not activated makes kinda sense, because I didn't buy a Home version, though I don't understand, why they didn't just installed Pro. Separately, they gave me a Windows 11 Pro DVD. It's a much used official shop, so I strongly assume it's a genuine copy of windows. However, the PC does not have a DVD drive I didn't think, I need one.Windows is prompting me to activate it, of course, giving me the message: "Windows reported that no product key was found on your device. Error code 0xc00

Install Windows 10 Pro on a System that Came with Windows 11 Home

Howdy! I very recently purchased a new Alienware Aurora R12 system. Unfortunately, it came with Windows 11 Home pre-loaded. I have an unused Windows 10 Pro retail product key and would like to use Windows 10 Pro instead. I'd much prefer to give Windows 11 at least a year for Microsoft to shake most of its bugs out before using it.

What would be the best way to go about that? Just reformat the SSD entirely and use a USB stick with the Windows 10 21H2 setup files? Since the system came with Windows 11 Home, would it pick up the Home license and prevent me from installing 10 Pro?

Any advice would be appreciated.

 

Install Windows 10 Pro on a System that Came with Windows 11 Home

Like NavyLCDR, I've been using Windows 11 for nearly six months now. There aren't really any new bugs in it, the changes (which some like and others hate) are mostly in the Start menu and Taskbar. The actual underlying OS has changed very little from 10.

Anyway, it makes no difference whether you use your Pro key to upgrade W11 Home to Pro, or clean install W10 Home and upgrade that to Pro. Either way your PC gets a digital license for Windows 10/11 Pro - and yes, that is now the official Microsoft name for it, your digital license will be just 'Pro'. It does not distinguish between W10 or W11.

 

Windows 8 Upgrade Streamlined to 11 Clicks

For those who upgrade between succeeding versions of Microsoft Windows, the upgrade installer can be cumbersome. There are way too many prompts and clicks. Microsoft is working to make the upgrade package of its next major version of Windows, for now referred to as Windows 8, streamlined to as few as 11 clicks. The new installer will be designed to perform most of its tasks without needing user input.

Microsoft will implement a new web-delivery method, where you purchase your Windows 8 license online, and the installer downloads your soft copy to you. It is pre-fed with your 25-character product key. Microsoft's next major Windows release is slated for 2012.
