Windows 10: Cast to Device problem

Not sure if it's due to a recent update or something else, but my Cast To Device is not working for all videos. Some videos I have downloaded will play with no problem and others I just get a connecting to device message and then it just tries to connect, but never does. Then I have to start over when the TV kicks off. There is no error message that explains why this is happening. It had never been a problem till about a month ago. I've tried every solution I have been able to find online and nothing works. I'v adjusted settings in Windows Media Player. Checked my firewalls - on computer and in my virus protection, made sure the device is listed on my device list, ran a troubleshooter for windows media player, and a few other things.

Since some videos will play an others won't I'm really not sure what to do.

Any ideas?

• Do you get any error message when you try to cast the device?
• Does the issue happen when you don't use cast to device, I mean when you are online?
• Which device do you use to cast the content?

If the issue happens only when you cast the device, the issue can be that of the casting device. In that case I would request you to execute the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with the Bluetooth adapter. Refer these steps:

  Press Windows key +X, select
  Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to
  Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  
•

Cast to device not working in Windows 10 after upgrade from 8.1

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Please confirm a couple of things:

• Are you using Edge browser to cast the videos?
• Is it specific to Edge browser?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps:

• Open Edge browser and access the video which you want to cast to your TV.
• Click on the Share icon on the top right hand corner of the browser.
• Among the listed devices select your device and check if you're able to cast the video.

Cast to Device problem with long playlists

Hello,

Further testing has shown that Long playlists cast perfectly OK to a Bluetooth speaker! So casting any length playlists to the BT speaker works every time.

The Long playlist problem exists when casting to a network device (over Ethernet, not WiFI), such as my PanasonicTV with in-built DLNA. (The DLNA function from the TV work OK too. It will play media from my computer on the TV.)

So this issue may not be related to Long Playlists.

This Panasonic TV shows up in the Windows 10 connected devices list as a
PLAY Device AND a as ANOTHER Device, both with the name of my Workgroup name. Both devices also are listed as
Media Devices AND one of them on the Other Devices list as a cast-able device (I think), along with my ChromeCast dongle device (which, however, does not show up in WMP as a cast-able device).

Starting to Cast to the TV works intermittently. Sometimes it will cast a Playlist over 100 tracks, other times it will not cast ONE track in the playlist.

Resetting WMPNetworkSvc, restarting WMP, or rebooting does not solve the problem.
