Hello, I've been reading this thread, and I have the same problem. But I can't find the Sata controller, where did you download it?

That is dependent on the chipset you are using. Is it AMD? Intel? You would be able to find and download the drivers directly from the manufacturer site.

It is an AMD K52De but I can't really find the right file, that's why I'm asking. I've been searching for it but I'm not sure about which one I should download.

Not sure if you found your answer. Just use the Media Creation Tool to download the ISO file. It'll work in upgrading the system and performing a clean install.

@Rodrigus: I'm not familiar with AMD chipsets. If you are unsure of which chipset you are using, you can use CPU-Z to identify it under the Motherboard tab. From there, you should be able to find it on AMD.

I have a desktop PC (AMD processor with an MSI motherboard) and an LG DVD/CD SATA DVD/CD Rom and I have a BIG Problem...
my ROM Drive does not even show up in my Device Manager...

I have checked in my Bios and it does pick it up in the Bios... The drive worked fine in Windows 7 before I Upgraded to Windows 10 and now it does not show up any ware... I have never had problems with the ROM before so I can't say what the Full Drive name in Windows 7 was (I never checked). Further if I put a DVD or CD in it, it comes on and you can hear it "See's" the Disc, but nothing else happens...

I checked on the LG website for almost the same ROM, but no drivers or software to be found

    Any advice anyone...?

if you are installing amd drivers or any drivers for the most part windows 10 has a policy out that it updates all device drivers and windows updates automatically... what you can try is

right click start select control panel
    select devices and printers
right click the computer icon select device installation settings
check the bullet next to no let me choose
then check the bullet never install driver updates

restart system then install the amd drivers or any other manufacture drivers that worked on 8.1, 8, 7
some system the hardware is just to old for modern systems

hopefully this will work for most of you that are having issues

I too have installed Windows 10 - and may return to 7 - and have lost CD/DVD drive. W10 seems to have all the bugs of 8 & 8.1 without the usability of 7. my first impression is it is crap. Sorry but I have not seen any answers that work to resolve issue. Like knowing make, model etc of DVD, how does this make any difference?
Does anyone actually know what they are doing, and can instruct simply - step by step - on a fix then I would appreciate it.

DVD/Bluray drives not recognized & secondary Hard Drive issue (maybe related?)
    Summary of setup and Troubleshooting:
Verified all hardware was operational in Windows 7 prior to upgrading to Windows 10.
Both hard drives and both the DVD/RW and Bluray/DVDRW show up in BIOS. No S.M.A.R.T. data issues with either HD. All four devices are SATA and have not been moved, replaced, or tampered with in any way prior to upgrade.
    Upon installing Windows 10 without errors, several problems arose shortly after the install;
    1) After a period of time, a few minuets at best, Win 10 indicated that my secondary hard drive was failing, and needed to be scanned and repaired. (Will address this issue separately, mentioned it as it might be related.)
    2) Neither of my optical drives show up in the File Explorer, the device manager, or on the Computer Management.
    a) Inserted a disc in to each drive in turn, both drives spin up properly, but again are not indicated as being attached to the system in the device manager or Computer Management. Neither drive required unique drivers in Windows 7, nor did either drive come with driver discs. I have verified drive operations by booting off of a disc inserted in each drive in turn. i.e. This is not a hardware issue.
    b) Tried forcing Win 10 to look for new hardware, none detected. Looked for Legacy Hardware, again, none detected.
    c) Verified BIOS setting for the two devices and all are set to the standard configurations.
    d) Forced Win 10 to download updates. Several were downloaded but no joy on the fix.

I have searched everywhere for a solution but there doesn't seem to be an applicable fix for the current downloaded build of Win 10.
All of these issues seem to have been worked out in earlier builds of 10, but reading here and other places it seems to have accorded again. Currently sitting here with a 2T drive with all my work on it that Win 10 says is bad (it's not) and two optical drives that are not even recognized and therefore are useless. Can't even watch my movies.

    Please Help!!

  12. I also had the problem that, after running Windows 10 upgrade, optical drive was not visible. First I checked the drivers and system said they were correct and up to date. I googled drivers for my particular drive HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GU10N SCSI and found a lot of sites that offered new drivers. Top of the list Windows Driver Download Center - Driver Scape mentioned Windows 10 but I was sceptical as the download offered under the guise of drivers was for a driver update utility that was elsewhere described as being difficult to get shot of once it was on your computer.

So I started looking at the posts in this forum and I saw the referral to [FIX] Optical Drives (CD/DVD) Icon Not Showing in My Computer Window - AskVG. Initially I was concerned that the post there was several years and versions of Windows out-of-date, but the success reported in some of the posts here made me think it might be ok. I tried option 1, but, although I had upper limits showing and deleted that, this option didn't work.

I was a little nervous of the 2nd option as I was not sure I understood the methodology described (right pane action "create new DWORD EnumDevice1 and set its value to 1"). So I decided to bite the bullet and follow method 3, copy/pasting reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001 into the Run field and clicked ok. After a reboot, I still couldn't see the optical drive BUT I could open the DVD ROM tray, which I could not do before. I put a DVD in there and, after kicking that off, I could see the drive afterwards. OK nice one. many thanks VG, Edward, Gryphon Microsoft and anyone else who has pointed this way.

By the way, in case anyone unfamiliar with Windows 10 doesn't know how to access the Run field, you need to Right click on the Start button (Windows icon bottom left of your screen).

    CD/DVD drive not recognized

I have also done this, and it did work, I didn't 'report back' because I'm still having a issue with my secondary hard drive.
I was hoping that maybe the association of the optical drive and hard drive problems might help in finding a solution. I'm running a Seagate Barracuda 2 Terabyte SATA drive as my secondary drive, drive "F". I've verified the operation of this drive on another computer and it is working perfectly on two other machines. I've also swapped SATA ports with the boot drive with the exact same results. Most cases the computer will boot showing my "F" drive, but I'll be unable to access the drive within a few minuets. In most cases, I'll have to reboot to re-access the drive, but some times I'm able to run my applications and perform normal read/write function for the entire evening.

I've read through these forums and I've not seen any similar complaints about hard drive problems with build 10240, or maybe I've just missed them.

Thanks for the optical drive 'fix'.

  14. if you're having trouble seeing hdd depending on your system if intel go to intel.com and download the Intel(R) Management Engine interface driver for your motherboard also download the intel RST program which is the raid controller see if that helps
if AMD download latest drivers or windows 8.1 drivers Download Drivers

  15. if also heard from other forums if you rearrange the actual hardware example, desktop system multiple sata ports 2 or 3 drives
reseat the cables in different sata ports yes this will switch the drives letters in windows but maybe windows will see them then
    same with the dvd drives...

if laptop not much you can do but a hard reset shut system down unplug power cord take out battery wait press the power button for 10 seconds to drain the residual energy from diodes and resisters.... wait a few minutes then insert battery plug power cord back in turn system on...

but if you have two hard drives you can unplug the ribbon from the main drive and do the same for the second drive
put second drive in slot 1 and main drive in slot 2 boot up see if windows boots up if not power up press esc key and choose boot order then if uefi system choose boot to efi and look thru the folders til you see bootx64.efi press enter this should boot up the main drive that's plugged into slot 2 see if windows sees the other drive... if you have the mbr legacy boot it should auto matically cycle thru the harddrives to the bootsector and boot up...... other than these trouble shooting steps I'm at a loss
