  1. Change in vsync behavior in Windows 10 since an update?

I remember up to around 2-3 years ago, borderless windowed mode without ingame vsync worked kinda like fast sync (though without the requirement for extreme frame rates) where the video card continued to generate frames and the screen only displayed the latest ones. This lead to uncapped framerate, no tearing but frametimes were sometimes inconsistent. Now, I either see tearing in borderless windowed mode, or, if I disable fullscreen optimalization, it seems just like regular refresh rate capped vsync just like in fullscreen. How did this change happen and how does system vsync work in borderless windowed mode without ingame vsync and without fullscreen optimalization work now?

  2. Vsync not working?

    Hello Minh Phạm Đức

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're encountering issues with Vsync not working properly after upgrading to Windows 11. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, new operating systems require updated drivers to function correctly. Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (Nvidia, AMD, etc.) to download and install the latest drivers compatible with Windows 11.
    2. Check Game Settings: Make sure that Vsync is enabled within the game settings. Sometimes, games have their own Vsync settings that may override the global settings in the Nvidia Control Panel.
    3. Nvidia Control Panel Settings: Double-check the Vsync settings in the Nvidia Control Panel. Open the Nvidia Control Panel, navigate to "Manage 3D Settings," and ensure that Vsync is set to "On" for both global settings and individual game profiles.
    4. Monitor Refresh Rate: Verify that your monitor's refresh rate is set correctly in Windows settings. Right-click on the desktop, select "Display Settings," then navigate to "Advanced Display Settings" and ensure that your monitor's refresh rate is set to 60Hz.
    5. Try Different Vsync Modes: Some games offer multiple Vsync options, such as "Fast Sync" or "Adaptive Vsync." Experiment with different Vsync modes within the game settings to see if any of them work better for your setup.
    6. Compatibility Mode: Right-click on the game's executable file, go to Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab. Try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 10 to see if that resolves the issue.
    7. Rollback Drivers (if necessary): If updating drivers didn't help and you suspect it's a driver issue, you might try rolling back to the previous version of your graphics drivers. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with specific games.
    8. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 installation is fully up-to-date by checking for any available updates. Microsoft may release patches or updates that address compatibility issues with certain hardware or software.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to reach out to the game developers or Nvidia support for further assistance, as it could be a more complex issue related to compatibility with Windows 11.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

    Forced Fullscreen Vsync

I've read those comment threads too, although in my case the opposite behavior holds true: Windowed=Vsync off; Fullscreen=Vsync on, regardless of driver or game settings.
