Windows 10: Change the email address on my Microsoft Account

I added a new 2nd account on my Microsoft Account under the 2nd category: Email & Accounts, to try to change my email address so it would be correct. I spent most of the afternoon yesterday trying to do this my myself, but the instructions in Support Microsoft just kept going in circles. Now I need to delete or remove the 1st account listed under the 2nd category? Is there a way to do this quickly and easily? Will my Microsoft Credentials update automatically? If not, I'll need to know how to update them too.Ruth 53

It is more than likely that your email account was hacked, either by a virus sniffing your password, or just simply hacked.

Either way, change your password on your email account. Unfortunately the damage by already be done. They already have your contact list and your email address associated with that contact list. There is nothing stopping them from sending out emails using their own SMTP servers to everyone on your contact list and claiming the emails are from your email address. They don't actually have to have access to your yahoo account or even any yahoo server to send emails to people that come from your address.

Here is how you can change the email address on your Microsoft account:

• Sign in to
  Manage how you sign in to Microsoft
  and fill in the information needed.
• Once you are on the page of Manage how you sign in to Microsoft,
  select Add email under the
  Account alias.
• Choose the option Create a new email address or
  Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias.
• Click Add alias.
• Click Make primary (To make the new email address as primary alias, you need to verify it for security purposes then follow the instruction on the email to
  finish the process).

Note: It will take up to 48 hours for the change to your email address to be applied across all Microsoft services.
