Changed HDrive, can not get OS to work....

This is long and drawn out... but..

I have a Dell laptop which came with Windows 10. It crashed. Went to BB got a new one. Opening it i found it was not the right one...

So I took my HD out of a old Toshiba LT n installed it to the Dell.

The OS would not boot. The OS was Windows XP.

So I remembered I had a storage stick with a boot system for XP. Used it and tge computer is working....

Then I put in the Dell CD to get Windows 10 to work... no luck. It says it doesnt know where to put the files it needs while installing W10.

What can I do? The install of WXP took out all my programs too.

    Suggestions please. Thanks.

    :)

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
