Changing default storage location and reverting back

    Hi,

I just got a newly PC installed with Windows 10 Pro.

I changed some default locations for storing documents, videos, music etc. to point to another drive instead of C. This is working fine.

Then I also changed the default storage location of new applications and apps to be installed from C:\Program Files and C:\%Program Files%\WindowsApps to D:\Program Files and D:\WindowsApps

All the new programs I install are on a separate partition D, categorized in folders, but not in Program Files. I now noticed I got a folder D:\Program Files and also D:\WindowsApps.

I don't want these Folders on my D: partition, so I reverted the location of new applications and apps back to C: I will choose another location manually when installing something.

However, I'm now still left with the D:\Program Files and D:\WindowsApp on my D partition and there's no way I can delete them. Also, there's lots of rubbish in the root of D installation files, temporary files which I don't want there. I tried deleting these folder on D by changing the access rights on the folder, but I'm not allowed to. I'm logged in with Administrator account, but no way to delete them.

I have followed the suggestions mentioned in another post, they don't work: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ack-to-c/b82778d9-322f-4fea-a53b-ff0d5eeeffb9

I've also checked the registry: there was still some reference to D:\WindowsApps for the app location. In Windows storage configuration I changed default location to D again, then back to C. That fixed the registry item which now points to C:\Program Files\WindowsApp again.

There are no other references to D:\Program Files and D;\WindowsApp in the registry now. Still the folders are left on D.

How can I get rid of these folders on my D partition so everything should be working as default again without having to reinstall my entire Windows?

Also what is causing all kinds of temporary files and installation files to go to the root of D now. How can this be fixed?

    :)

  2. Changing the default storage designation for the Microsoft Windows Store and various apps.

    Hi Isaac,

The default storage location for the Windows store and apps is in system location where Windows is stored (This PC-> C drive), if you want to change the default location of the apps then I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the settings
    and check if it helps.

    • Open Settings and click on the System icon.
    • Click on Storage on the left side, on the right side under
Save locations, select the drive to where you want your
      documents
      , music, pictures, and/or
      videos
to be saved to by default.
    • Click/tap on Apply.

The above settings option is available only from the Windows version (10586), I suggest you to check in which version of Windows build in installed on your computer.

Please get back to us with an update on this issue, we will be happy to assist you further.

    Thank you
