changing from 32 bit to 64 bit home version

My sons computer has a legit copy of windows home but for some reason the installed version was 32 bit, I noticed later that the machine was x64 bit processor.
I installed windows ten prior to noticing the version, I would like to change it to x64 bit, I read a few threads on converting, I downloaded the x64 ISO and burnt it to a DVD.
I am not concerned about wiping the drive clean everything needed has been removed and copied.

I read about skipping the key as it is being installed and that a key would be issued by Microsoft based on the hardware of the machine.

I am curious, would the key for the original 32 bit installation be the one that would be inserted in the x64 bit install or would a different key be issued?

    curious

    :)

Can't Upgrade Windows 10 Home Edition to Pro

May it have to do with 32-bit against 64-bit version rather than Home against Pro version, meaning you are trying to upgrade from 32-bit Home to 64-bit Pro, or vice versa ?

  3. Migrating from Win7 Pro 32-bit to Win10 Pro 32-bit to Win10 Home 64-bit

Why would you change to Windows 10 Home 64 bit when your licensing entitles you to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit?

You switch to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit without purchasing a new license. Switching to Windows 10 Home 64 bit would require the purchase of a new license.

How to: Switch from 32 bit versions of Windows to Windows 10
    64 bit

I went as far as step five, When I ran the file as administrator I got the message that " this app cannot run on your PC"

The computer was booted running the upgraded 32 bit windows 10 and the ISO was the downloaded x64 version I extracted the gatherosstate.exe file from.

    Maybe that was the reason?

Is there a way I can identify what version the ISO is that I downloaded using power ISO

I am sure it was the X64 Home version

That's most likely why. Test using a known 32-bit ISO.

A tip: I have downloaded versions of Linux LiveDVD .iso files both to compare with WinXP for folks who are looking for a change or running older hardware and to boot to in verifying whether the hardware is 32-bit or 64-bit. Mostly I use the 64-bit disc as 32-bit software can run on 64-bit hardware but not the other way around.

    Tacit,

Brink pointed you to the wrong tutorial. Since you have already upgraded to Windows 10 and have an activation stored on the server, the tutorial you want is:
    Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

The Windows 10 Home product key for both 32-bit and 64-bit is:
    YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7

Actually, you could use either tutorial. I just opted for the one with the gatherosstate.exe file to help make sure there's no activation issues.

    Thanks for the help.
I cleaned off the drive after I created the home version x64 DVD and installed it.
Windows 10 Home x64 installed and activated.
