Windows 10: Changing from modern standby to s3 sleepstate

Recently, I came across a lot of contents about how modern standby is bad for your battery and device, and could potentally cook your CPU and GPU, so I really wanna try the S3 sleepstate, but when I search online for how to check for s3 sleepstate's availability, they only show the case when it isn't. So I want to ask that whether my device could use s3 sleepstate, and what are the methods I could use to enable s3 sleepstate?

How to enable S3 Sleep State and Disable Modern Standby (S0)

I had checked this site already. The solution provided here disables the S0 modern standby, but it does not enable S3. (Meaning the sleep as a whole is removed itself)

 

How do I re-enable my modern standby sleep mode (S0)?

Modern standby (S0) is indeed designed to allow for faster wake times, which can be convenient for many users. On the other hand, S3 sleep mode is a deeper sleep state where the system is essentially powered down, resulting in lower power consumption. While wake times may be slightly longer compared to modern standby, S3 can be preferable for those who prioritize power efficiency and want to ensure their laptop doesn't generate excess heat during periods of inactivity. Here are the steps to enable Modern standby:

1. Open Registry Editor:
   
   • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
     
   • Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
     
2. Navigate to the Power Settings:
   
   • In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:
     
     
3. Modify the Registry Key:
   
   • Look for the PlatformAoAcOverride key.
     
   • If it exists, right-click on it and select Delete.
     
   • If it does not exist, you can skip this step.
     
4. Enable Modern Standby:
   
   • Open an elevated Command Prompt (right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator").
     
   • Enter the following command to delete the registry entry that disables Modern Standby:
     
     
5. Restart Your Computer:
   
   • Restart your computer to apply the changes.
     

Verify Modern Standby (S0) is Enabled

1. Open Command Prompt:
   
   • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
     
2. Run Power Configuration Command:
   
   • Type the following command and press Enter:
     
     
   • This command will list the available sleep states. Look for "Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)" to confirm that Modern Standby is enabled.

How to enable S3 Sleep State and Disable Modern Standby (S0)

Thanks for the feedback, the powercfg command is returning the following information "The system firmware does not support this standby state", more modern Intel processors no longer support S3 mode.

The ideal now would be for you to check with your PC manufacturer's support if there is the possibility of supporting S3 mode via a BIOS update.
