  1. changing hard drive help

i have win 10 on my pc that i got and installed win 7 on. then window told me to upgrade to 10 so i did thru the internet, at that time i entered the code from my cd and sometime later that code changed, it is now not the same as on my cd. anyway i want to change the hard drive and have to find out how to get the os onto the new drive along with the rest of my data?

is there a way to do this without having to get a new key code. if i install from the sc and go back to win 7 i have heard windows is not allowing upgrades anymore for free. if i can't do this i will just suffer. thanks

    :)

    Hi Debbra,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I appreciate your interest in windows 10 and also for trying the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this.

I would suggest you to plug in hard drive then check in disk management you can see the drive or not.

Follow the steps to check Drive in Disk Management.

    • Go to the Control Panel then click on the
      Administrative Tools. .

    • Under the Administrative Tool Click on Computer Management.

    • Click on Disk Management and check the External Hard Drive.

Also check in BIOS whether External Hard Drive is listed or not.

For help with the BIOS settings, refer to the computer manual or contact the manufacturer.

If it doesn’t work then, I would suggest you to update BIOS for updating BIOS contact Lenovo Support.

  3. Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hard drive with molex power connection.
    • PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
    • Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.
    STEPS:
    • Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
    • Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
    • Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
    • Plug in a drive and feel the speed!
Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!
