Windows 10: Changing internet type on a internet passthrough ethernet connection

Currently, I have two computers one desktop and one laptop and I have been able to pass my internet through my desktop to my laptop via ethernet, but my problem is that this ethernet connection sets up as a public connection. I want to change this to a private connection so then I can make my laptop and desktop discoverable to each other while not making it discoverable to my other ethernet connection that is receiving my internet connection. But when I go to the ethernet settings it only allows me to change the public/private profile on the ethernet connected to the internet and not the connection providing internet to the laptop. Is there a way to change the public/private setting from my desktop to my laptop?

I'm really curious about this, considering the amount of hoopla every major internet connection provider likes to claim about their services, and many times exaggerated just to help their own sales . . .

So, with that in mind, anyone willing to post up their download/upload connection speeds, and we can see just how much of a difference there is in the various internet connection types.

Hit up http://www.speedtest.net/, choose the location closest to your home and begin the test, afterwards, copy and paste your result here. Also, please list what type of connection you have (dial-up, cable, DSL, VDSL, FiOS, etc) - if you are running through an ethernet connection, please also list whether it's a direct connection, or your LAN/WiFi connection speeds.

Apologies for the late reply.



Since you are able to connect to the internet wirelessly it is just the wires connection which has issues.

It could be either wire which has problems or Ethernet port.

Before you change either of these I suggest you to try the following steps:

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

a. In search Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the search box and hit Enter.

c. Select “View all” option from the left panel.

d. Select “Internet Connections” from the list and follow On-screen instructions.

Internet Connectivity Issues

So heres the deal. My brother who is behind the opposite wall of me is having internet issues. The router is here in my room and his internet is plugged into the Linksys E2000 via a wire going from it to an ethernet wall socket going to his room and into his computer.

He has been having iffy internet for the past 2 days. Fixed it yesterday by rebooting now the problem has resurfaced.

What we have tried:

• Testing the ethernet cables with a tester. Passed
• Tested onboard ethernet with known working cable (computer hooked up using my connections in my room) Passed
• Checked to make sure there was no static IP address in IPv4 settings. Passed
• Made sure the Network Connection wasnt full on disabled. Passed
• Swapped the cable leading from the router to the wall outlet in my room. Passed and worked for a few minutes.

With regards to that last bullet point, the computer is no longer getting internet again despite working for a few minutes. Testing the new cable again, tells us that pins 1 and 2 are "open". That is the second cable in a row that the tester is spitting this message out on.

Any ideas guys? Im out of them.
