Windows 10: Chrome is the most popular web browser of all

FireFox is showing hiccups on my Core 2 Quad desktop and my laptop with a recent fresh install of Windows 10.

 

Be sure to get the atest VGA drivers for Windows 10, Firefox needs hardware acceleration capabilities enabled. In case you can't, disable hardware acceleration in the browser and see how it works...

 

Chrome doesn't have the top-bar menus. That breaks the deal.

Firefox had been doing away with the menus, but it gave me the option of bringing them back ... and there's a plugin that lets me make new Firefox look like old Firefox. And there's Tab Mix Plus that makes tabs creation behave the way I want it to.

So Chrome is dead for me (with the exception of Chrome Remote Desktop, which uses Chrome as its underlying engine).

IE ? Gave that up over a decade ago. I still use it for SharePoint development because SP requires Active X for development and administrative functions. But such use is the small exception.

Edge is an abortion. It ran (past tense) on my work laptop. But it's just another browser with nothing to recommend it. I said "past tense" because it no longer runs. When I try to run it I get a popup that says "Microsoft Edge has stopped working". It's a dead horse here.

It still works on my home desktop. But when I tried to import my Firefox bookmarks, it says "Couldn't import favorites".

So it's not just that Edge isn't good. It's not that Edge performs poorly. It's simply that Edge just doesn't work.

 

I used to switch back and forth between Chrome and Firefox. I used Chrome because it was rock-solid and I used Firefox because it was fast. I recently just made the switch to Opera as a good compromise between the two. It's built on top of Chromium and has ad-block, vpn, and a battery-saving mode for my laptop built in.

 

I personally don't see anything that Chrome does particularly better so I continue to use FireFox.

 

I have Chrome to test stuff that could not work on Firefox, and get an idea why... but honestly, Firefox is my main, even in my smartphone...

 

There's still a few of us hanging in there. *chuckle
I've never had any interest in chrome or Fire Fox. Also I use Kaspersky which I think still has some kind of problems with MS Edge, so IE11 it is.

 

I love or loved Firefox but I find myself using Chrome more because Firefox has a annoying problem of it going into a black screen I can be browsing for hours or just 5 minutes but it happens random. The only solution is to disable hardware acceleration which I refuse to do as web pages lag and videos look terrible. This started with CU and I have the most current Nvidia drivers. Ran sfc /scannow no problems. Heck I even did a recent clean install still randomly blacks out.

Not happy with Chrome either has fonts render worse and some websites like macrumors.com have really bad fuzzy fonts. Only useless Google solutions is to disable Directwrite which is not in chrome anymore or download some dated extension which also does not work but because of the Firefox blackouts I have to use it more now.

 

By black screen you mean like... black screen and instant reboot? If that is your case, depending on your chipset, you may benefit from installing the newest chipset drivers for your system, if available.

I had the same problem... kinda, Firefox freezed windows and forced a reboot, updating chipset drivers solved that issue, all works wonders, including Firefox (which now even enables hardware acceleration in H.264 without tweaks)

You can try that... hopefully, it will work...

 

Sorry I mean a black screen in the Firefox browser. Every webpage, new tab or even open tab is black. Restarting the browser and it is working again.

I am thinking of taking out this Nvidia card and using a AMD card instead if it is more stable but there are so many cards that it is confusing that I don't buy one that is actually a downgrade to the Nvidia 1060 3GB card.
