I am afraid I despair when I read posts like this. A menu system is a means to an end, not the end itself.

To me it is like saying, I don't like the steering wheel in this car, so I am going to use an older car even though it does not have aircon, electric windows etc.

Having used the W10 menu extensively, I dislike using the old style win7 menus now whenever I have to on win7/8 pcs.

  2. We all have choices we do not all walk in beat to what MS uses. Some users even use Google Chrome or Firefox, that is their choice. What you think is not relevant to what millions of Windows 10 users applications are used. As far as I know it is legal to use any Program the user wants to. I cannot speak to where you live but The US is a free Country and as such we are free to use whatever Programs we please as long as they are legit and does not violate Windows 10's EULA.
The is a section on This Forum for user created Themes. You my friend do not have a say in what any member uses. You are entitled to your opinion which you have posted. If you are in despair over this then that is on you.

I never used Windows 8 or 8.1 as in my opinion the GUI is ugly. When I did use Windows 7 I was heavily into using Themes, 3rd party themes. Classic Shell is the only thing I use that changes the look of Windows 10. I also do not use Windows Media Player, Edge and 99% of the Metro Apps. This is my choice. I also was in the insider program for 2 1/2 years using CS. Since MS sees all they knew I used it and others used it as well as I even sent screenshots to The Insider Hub.

In closing, I will continue to use CS as long as it works and when or if it stops there are other avenues to take. Since CS is now Open Source, I can obtain the source code. If you do not like it do not use it but please do not try to tell me or anyone else what to use or what makes you despair.

Back on topic: This is TERRIBLE news, because I love CS and I cannot get used to the clunky new start tiled menu introduced with w8. Do you know any other alternatives rather than Start10?

PS - I hope someone will continue CS development.
PS2 - I big thanks to Ivo Beltchev for giving us CS for free.

I'll keep using CS as long as it works, then will need to consider an alternative.

You can of course get rid of all the tiles on the Win10 start menu and drag the edge of that dreadful screen hogging box back to a "normal" size, not as good as Classic Start however at least it isn't taking up desktop space and you just get the alphabetical list, not keen on that either!

It's funny... The only MS app I use is the Weather App...
And the right click start menu context menu feature..
And I do not use the MS Store for any program..

So to me MS Win10 is just a bloated OEM OS, with the OEM in complete control of the Steering Wheel

Not happy. When I first started to use Windows 10 I tried the terrible start menu for a week. Could not take it so I installed Classic Shell. Now that it won't be updated no more I have to get use to the terrible Windows 10 start menu.

This really disturbed me at first - have used Classic Shell Start Menu for so long and been so content with it. However, guess we have to move on when things change. I am trying Stardock Start 10 on one of my pc's and so far it is very acceptable. Really easy to set up the way I wanted it and simple to use. I will continue to use Classic Shell Start Menu on other pc and laptop until I have to do something to replace it on them But, at least I have an option now - can try free trial and cost is only $4.99. Am posting screenshot of Stardock Start 10 as info for those who might want to see if it might work for them.

Windows 10 start menu is too poorly organized and clumsy to me. I can organize the Classic Shell start menu the way I want it, open folders within folders by just hovering and not have to click on anything until I reach what I want. I'll continue to use Classic Shell until it no longer works and then look for something as nearly like it as possible. Windows just doesn't have an acceptable alternative, IMO.

I tried Start 10 also don't like it either. Restored my image with Macrium Reflect Free as I don't like to have trial software that will expire even if I wanted to try it again.
