  1. Clean Install of Windows 10

Hello folks, yesterday I did the free upgrade to Windows 10 pro from Windows 8.1pro and I would now like to do a 'clean install'.

When I did the upgrade, I thought that I was going to get the opportunity to save Windows 10 to a USB Memory Stick but that option didn't arise.

Do I now have to go through another download in order to achieve this please? I prefer to have the O/S on some sort of medium so that I can do a clean install whenever I want.

Thank you for any help that may be offered.

    :)

  3. Clean install of Windows 10

    Original Title: Win 10 upgrade

Now that I have upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10

I see by right clicking "This PC" it shows a win 10 product ID number.

Does this mean now that I have upgraded Win 7 and have a product

ID number that I can reinstall on a clean drive (same computer)?

My Win 7 install was a little buggy before the upgrade and I would like

a fresh install on an SSD drive. I was told win 7 would no longer work

after the upgrade so reinstalling win 7 before win 10 may not be possible.

If you still have the install.esd file on your hard drive (I think it is in a hidden folder Windows_~BT or something like that, in sources folder), you can use the ESD to ISO tool from this forum to make an ISO from what you have already downloaded - if it is still there.

  7. Thank you folks. I have now downloaded the software onto a USB stick. All I have to do now is hope that it works!

Not being that brill with computers, out of interest what is the difference in getting the software by way of the Media Creation Tool and downloading an ISO File? (What is an ISO File?)

The same thing. The USB uses the ISO provided by the media creation too (ISO is an image file of the OS you're installing), or you can mount the ISO to a DVD. I prefer the USB method, don't like wasting DVDs.

  9. Thank you Dusty.
One other question please folks, if I do a clean install of Windows 10, will it look any different to what I have at the moment? I did an upgrade from 8.1 and to me my setup looks no different, obviously when you start to explore you do find changes but at the moment there doesn't seem to be many of them.

  10. Nothing other than perhaps a bit of extra stability. Don't forget to install windows updates and the computer drivers when finished.

  11. Thank you again Dusty. By computer drivers, do you mean those for the printer?

  12. You can, yes, but I was referring to the computer drivers at your computer manufacturers website for Windows 10. Things like inf, vga, etc that will further provide stability instead of just using Microsoft update and hoping it gets you the right ones.

  13. Clean Install of Windows 10

Once again, many thanks for this info. I must admit that I hadn't given that any thought. I will go on to the Dell website and see what is available for 10. Thanks again. Where would us oldies be without the help of people like you.
