If you create a usb flash drive using media creation tool, and use that , it will automatically instal the correct version.

First use the link I gave you and create a boot disk. Get your data off machine. Once your data is safe you can proceed without fear of losing things. If you don't have second computer find a friend.

What kind of computer do you have? Make model

Was it store bought or did you build?

    Hi again,
Below are the attached Images of the process that I'm following..
So if I go in bios and select uefi and save the settings, my pc constantly restarts without reading the disc and attempting a repair (which is Impossible ofcourse as there is no os in the system) when the change the settings back to legacy support then I can go in boot menu and select the options as I'm using DVD to Install so I selected DVD option (I dint noticed UEFI there as you can see in the attachment) it takes me to the installation guide, tells me to select 64bit or 32bit, I selected 64 bit as per my system conf. And then it asked me for partition( shows me 7 partitions in total) but cant select any as it says the disk is in GPT format. Also there is no problem with the disk as my friend used the same disk on his brand new laptop, he never got this error but as I already have an os Installed, it is showing this error..

Ken, my laptop is G50-45 80E300GYIN with AMD A8-6410 processor Clocked at 2GHZ 4gb ddr3 /500gb sata 2gb graphics with DOS which I upgraded to w8 with zero issues but now I'm stuck and I purchased this online about 2 years ago

With boot mode set to UEFI, move the SATA ODD to the top of the priority list, before the HDD. If you get setup going that way, when the computer restarts during the setup process, just remove the DVD and reboot the computer and setup will continue from the hard drive.

  7. Thanks for the make model. So this is a Lenovo and when you say bought online, with DOS, I assume you mean you bought a pre-owned laptop. I guess the original owner deleted the recovery partition, correct?

I realize this may already be in thread but.....

Where did you get your copy of Windows 10? You said you are using Disc. Using the Windows Media Creation tool to create a bootable USB copy of 10 might ensure you that you have correct software formatted correctly on a USB key.

Something to consider after trying NavyLCDR's and other members guidance.

Thanks Ken, NavyLCDR and everyone for all the help. unfortunately nothing seems to work as I tried all the methods..

What I did to fix this is I physically removed the HDD copied everything in another pc, and then cleaned disk through CMD

    followed this link

Convert GPT drive into MBR using Command Prompt (cmd).

installed W10 (worked fine) and thats it!! *Wink

and Ken it was a brand new laptop i purchased w/o OS and then installed W8 separately, as this model comes with DOS only.

So you have now down a legacy bios install. All your problems stemmed from the bios setting saying you had set legacy bios support. Had you changed that setting to uefi, it would have installed as uefi.

Lenovo's are slightly unusual. On most pcs, if boot setting is set to legacy bios, pc will only boot from a legacy bios install, and similarly, if set to UEFI, it will only boot from a UEFI install. Lenovo's can boot from either irrespective of the boot setting.

So you can have the bios setting set to legacy bios, but it will boot from a uefi drive. However if you try an install, it will only install according to the setting and drive needs to be in correct format.

You could now convert the drive to gpt using the mbr to gpt tutorial, and it will boot ok.

I dont know what exactly was the problem but i wasnt able to see UEFI option in boot menu, tried all possible ways from bios and boot. but nothing worked, so cleaned everything and changed to MBR, then put everything back to HDD. long process but that was the only solution I could think of.
