I just did a clean install from ISO, The name MS assigned to my username was the first 5 characters of my email account! Not OK! It used to be whatever nickname (i.e. shortname) I had chosen. What gives?

    :)

  3. User name is spelled wrong

hi - I just purchased a new computer that's running Windows 10, but when it set my username up under "users" it misspelled by name. In other words, under the "users" folder theres a folder for me but it misspelled my name as the name of my user folder.

    How can I change this?

Here's the best I can show you cause I restored an image from just before ISO install. I have no idea why or how it did this, but many, many links and stuff i had set up were pointing to "Dick", and then were invalid cause Dick was not the username, dhubb was! I clean installed twice, got same results, gave up, and reimaged. LOST! *Confused*Banghead*cry

Do a clean install again but with a local account and a generic user name, then switch to a MS Account later.
That's what I did, then your User folder/environment won't contain any 'giveaway' monikers or nicknames.

This is one is a head scratcher. When the PC is booting up (on 10041 of course), it refers to me, the only user on this PC, as "Other User".

But after booting up, all user info and PC info are fine.

I haven't clean installed yet but I have the ISO ready. So far, there is no performance loss. Just those tiny "scratches" here and there. *Smile

That's right Edwin but I don't know what MS is thinking. And they said they want to make our daily computing more "personal"? But our own PC refers to us as "Others"? Fail.

MS account or Local account is a personal choice.

You might want to have a look at this first before doing another clean install:

That is always best. If you create an account straight off as MS account and the name is more than 5 characters you get the first 5 then _000 as the short name so Dillon becomes Dillo_000 in the C:\Users (whereas Adam works OK.)

Looks rubbish like that - far better to create it as a local account with the name you want and then switch and it is faster too.

    Clean install, wrong user name

    Hi there

I got "Other User" during the install (clean install from iso) - but it reverted to my own (local) user on the first PROPER boot after installation.

I was never prompted for a Ms account either -- didn't want to use one apart from One Drive when you can login to one drive separately - doesn't effect your Windows login.

    Cheers

I get that connecting to my 8.1 machine through RDP. The account on 8.1 is a local account set to auto-logon through netplwiz and I think that it is this that causes this "Other User" logon picture when you connect through RDP although why I don't know.
