    Clone windows 10 from C: to D:?

HelloI wanted to put the OS on my SSD and everything else on HDD to increase the performance. When I built the PC the HDD wasn't recognized and everything went on the 250GB SSD. I fixed that but when reinstalling the OS has gone to the HDD now. Can I clone the windows folder from C: to D:?cheers

    :)

Windows 10 Store Error 0x80073d0d after cloning D:\

SO I just cloned my D:\ & E:\ to a larger HDD and I started getting the above error immediately.

What happened was I moved some of the bigger games like Forza Motorsports 6: Apex, ReCore, Fallout Shelter, etc. to D:\ as my OS drive is a 250GB SSD. All apps installed on C:\ are fine.

After cloning, Windows Store had issues updating these games or it could be a license issue.

I've tried Resetting the game (not successful - game files didn't barge), Reinstall (error 0x80073d0d or 0x80070005 came up), Troubleshoot Windows Store (no error found, only crashing/hanging app not fixed - not my current problem), & WSReset.exe.

I've also tried to give "Users" Full Control (but not Ownership of the D:\WindowsApp - ownership is TrustedInstaller). I didn't try to delete the unknown user in the Permission.

I tried to delete all the Windows App cache in C:\ & D:\, folders like %appdata%\package\[game folder] and D:\WindowsApp, etc. D:\WindowsApp\ReCore & FlightUnlimited 2K16 couldn't be deleted.

I thought perhaps my OS Drive couldn't cache the App packages, so I upgraded my 250GB SSD to 1TB using the same cloning software, still no go. After cloning, my C:\ worked flawlessly.

I'm thinking it could be a license issue at this point in time. Or maybe due to the large HDD 4TB, the cloning software changed MBR to GPT? Could it be an issue with my NTFS alternate data stream, but that should be correctly cloned by Acronis TrueImage
2016 or else my C:\ wouldn't clone properly too.

Any suggestion is welcome but please read what I have tried already. TIA!!! And Happy New Year!

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

I kinda agree with you, but on a wholr, do not. While I have done things a bit differently than this specific situation, by installing Windows directly to the SSD, and cloning after, my testing shows that there are no issues doing this, very little that can go wrong, provided your system is stable.

There are certain features that must be disabled in this situation, like auto defrag and such, but even with a fresh install to the SSD, you need to take steps to ensure that you SSD performs properly, regardless of how the data got there.

Arming yourself with a bit of knowledge can go a long way.

Installing the latest chipset driver, and the RST Tools, will ensure optimal performance of the SSD. but rather than taking my advice, I suggest the OP takes a look here:

Keep in mind, also, Digibucc, that many retail drives include software and such that very specifically is to be used to ttranser the OS from an existing mechanical drive to an SSD, and if there really was alot fo issues stemming from the cloning process, they would not have packages like that, simply to eliminate tech support costs. While not the optimal option, cloning is NOT a bad thing, as long as you take the nessecary steps.

  4. Clone windows 10 from C: to D:?

clone internal ssd C: drive to identical internal D:

I have a new desktop PC with 2 identical 500 GB SSD drives.
I would like to create a copy/clone? of the C: drive onto the 2nd (DClone windows 10 from C: to D:? :) drive to that if C: fails I do not have reinstall everything.

    Is this possible?

If so can I use native Win 10 software to do this or do I need 3rd party software?
