Closing lid changes display options to second screen only

OK, I have a simple one but I can't figure out how to google it successfully. I have my laptop hooked up to my TV. When I close the laptop lid, I want the computer to stop sending signal to the laptop screen, and only send signal to the second display (TV). The same as if I had hit windows + P, and pressed "second screen only". Then, if I reopen the laptop, I want it to switch back to "extend."

Is this even possible? I've wanted this since Windows 7 and I've never been able to figure out how to do it. All help would be appreciated,

    Dave

    :)

Laptop, Dual Display, Lag with closed lid

Yep, it's on "do nothing", but this disappears when you use the hack since it basically kind of disables the lid functionality feeding it with the wrong driver.

It seems there is no easy workaround (maybe disable/enable the internal display driver on startup someone on another forum has suggested, but I haven't tested) for this if you want to use duplicate or extended display and you want to use the sleep function with closed screen.

But if you make your second display (the external monitor) your main and restart after that the lag is gone with Windows starting and applying this setting before loading its processes. I didn't restarted the first time because I thought it will instantly change with no lag, which is not the case.

So, the sum up for people ending up here in the future is this:
    1) If you want duplicate/extended display and ability to close/open the lid without laptop turning the screen off, but not being able to use the sleep function with closed screen -> use the hack
    2) If you want to use sleep with closed lid you have to use only the external display, making it your main (see picture below -> select "show only on") and restart after that

Laptop, Dual Display, Lag with closed lid

    Hi,

I just bought some monitor to use with my Dell laptop and connected it through the HDMI port of the second graphics display. The problem is that when I close the lid, the laptop automatically turns off the laptop display and stops using the internal video card which leads to minor lag when using the new monitor with only the second graphics display being active.

    Obviously the solutions are:
    1) Somehow force the internal video card to still be used
    2) Stop the turning off of the laptop display when the lid is closed (I don't have such option in control panel -> power options)

Any ideas how to go fix this besides not closing the lid at all?
