Windows 10: CMD says 32gb Max memory but Asus support says maximum upgradable memory is 16gb.

currently planning to upgrade memory to 32 gb, checked the "wmic memphysical get maxcapacity" command in cmd and the max capacity displayed was 32gb, also checked the processor info on web, it also says max capacity for this processor is 64gb. But after chatting with Asus tech support, they said maximum you can upgrade is 16gb. Confused if i upgrade it to 32gb it might not recognize it, need guidance.My laptop specs: - Asus Vivo book X515JAintel i5 10th gen, 1035g1

What will happen if I install more than the Max Memory in a W-10 PC?

Memory is tied to the IMC inside the CPU so what ever your CPU can support generally is what you can use up to in terms of Memory capacity, if you have the slots for the amount of ram capacity up to the IMC's maximum, there is more to it but this is a general rule of thumb. The limiting factor i can see here in your situation is that the following elite 8300 form factors CMT, MT, SFF have provision for 4 ram slots so you can get the full 32gb. The UDST form factor of the elite 8300 only has 2 ram slots and with DDR3 only coming in 8gb sticks then this is why it says a max of 16gb. Seeing as you are saying that you have a max 16gb for the motherboard then its safe to assume you have the UDST model. DDR3 only comes in 8gb sticks or less. There is DDR3 ram sticks that are 16gb but they are rare and at the time of this machines creation they didn't exist. This machine came out in 2013 and the ram in 2015. Regardless its rare i have lots of DDR3 ram like lots and i have never owned a 16gb stick. I'M Intelligent Memory to release 16GB Unregistered DDR3 Modules - - - Updated - - - You can try but as already mentioned its either going to work or its not. It will either step down to 16gb, work as the full 32gb or not work at all.

32GB Installed (16GB Usable)

One month ago I upgraded from 16GB ram to 32GB ram. But since then it has said 32GB Installed memory (16GB usable) and the other 16GB is in the hardware reserved.

The motherboard does support 32GB ram and so does the processor. But I have tried these steps and still doesn't resolve the issue.

Ryzen 5 2600

GTX 1070

DDR4 32GB 3200mhz CL16 Ballistix ram

Gigabyte GA-A320M-H motherboard

I have tried

Updating BIOS:

Changing the page file in virtual memory.

Change msconfig.

Reseating the CPU and RAM.
