Windows 10: Code 39 fix for Windows

I have been struggling with this issue for weeks now. The USB ports of my laptop, Windows 10 Home x64 version 1909 , suddenly decided that they would not recognize any device. They still charge. When I open the device manager, the only thing I see under "Universal Serial Bus Controller" is "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller" with a yield sign in front. When I double click, the device status message is "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. Code 39 Object Name not found.".


I have tried updating the driver "Windows was unable to install your USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller", uninstalling the driver and rebooting driver gets reinstalled with same problem, disabling and re-enabling the device same situation, reinstalling the driver from the original vendor of the laptop. All yield to the same result: nothing changes and USB does not work. I have checked the registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} and it does not have UpperFilters or LowerFilters.


I first wonder if it is normal to only see "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller" under "Universal Serial Bus Controller".


And second, I would like to be able to solve this issue, if anyone can support I would very much appreciate. Spent too many hours already on something that should be trivial to fix.

Please answer these questions to assist you better.

• Do you get same error codes in the Device manager too?
• Does this issue occurs in other hardware components like keyboard and mouse?
• What is the make and model of your computer?
• Do you get same error when you connect your extenal hard drive to a different computer running Windows 10?

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to check in Device Manager and check if you get the same error code. If yes follow link and perform the troubleshooting steps suggested under

Hi, My Audio is not working, it says code 39 and so far everything I have tried hasn't helped.

Are you getting this error in Device manager?

I suggest you to refer the link below and click on Code 39 and follow the steps suggested. Check if that helps.
