  1. com port issues

I am an amateur radio operator, I have two radios hooked up to two different com ports, there are additional programs that need to access these radios, N1MM logging software, SKCC logging software, and a few other programs. I shut everything down before I turn off my computer and then shut down the computer yet, when I turn the computer back on, Windows 10, and try to access one of the radios via the computer control program, or the logging programs, I get and error message that the com port is in use by another device, even though nothing else is running.

The only way I can get access to the radio via any of the programs is to keep hitting the connect feature, most times I will gain access to the device hooked up to that comport after several tries at hitting the connect feature, but once in a while I will open the program and it will correctly connect to the com port.

I have noticed in device manager, when I expand the view to show hidden ports, that with all my amateur radio equipment powered off I have ghost ports showing, they turn active when I power on the radios.

I will be happy to provide any further information if needed.

    :)

    Port is being blocked

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

    • Are you aware of any changes that happened on the computer prior to this issue?

Upon researching, this seems like an issue due to the port scan. You may want to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Login to your Netgear
      NX6200 Extender GUI
      .
    • Click on Advanced tab and choose
      WAN Setup
      .
    • Check the box for Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection.
    • Allow it to update and check if the port is still being blocked.

However, if the issue persists, I suggest you to post your query in the
TechNet Forums, where we have support professionals
equipped with knowledge on port forwarding.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

Issue with USB ports turning off

    Hi Mattx1,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

    1. Does the issue occur with all the USB devices plugged in to the PC?
    2. Does the issue occur when you plug in the USB device to any of the UISB port on the PC?
    3. Did you make any changes to the PC prior to this issue?

Let us try these steps one by one to check if that makes any difference.

Step 1: Suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and check if that helps.

    1. From the Settings screen, choose Update & Security.
    2. Select Troubleshoot. Look for Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and run it.
    3. Follow the on-screen direction to complete the process and if required please apply the fix it.
    4. Once it is done, please reboot the computer and check the status.

Step 2: Suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers on the PC to check if that helps.

    1. Press ‘Windows + R’ keys, type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run window and press Enter.
    2. In Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
    3. Right click a device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click uninstall.
    4. Perform same step for other devices. When completed, restart the computer.
All USB controllers will reinstall automatically.
