    Hello, I'm sorry to have to post a question when there are dozens with the same title, but I have tried all of the options I have seen suggested, but my issue persists.When I run cmd.exe, it opens and then immediately quits.Things I've tried, but have not solved the issue:Adding C:\Windows\SysWow64 to Path;Temporarily deactivate antivirus;Repair update;Open cmd.exe from a link with administrator privileges;Things that have worked to open the command prompt:Created an new user on my computer. For that user, everything works fine...Opened cmd.exe as:cmd.exe /dI don't know what this implies and I

    Would I just follow the same steps within safe mode after hooking up to the other system?

    command prompt will not open in safe mode with command prompt

    I am repairing a laptop for a friend and I need to access windows in safe mode and the owner has forgotten the password to the main user. I tried logging on with the administrator profile in safe mode but it is not showing up so I was going to use command prompt in safe mode with command prompt but command prompt will not open when I boot that option. Does anyone have any hints for me to figure this out?

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

    to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
