Windows 10: Compatibility Windows 10

I suspect the REAL reason they retired the Compatibility list is because an increasing number of programs were no longer compatible, and the list was becoming too cumbersome to maintain. EVERY new Windows patch breaks more old programs, and the Compatibility Troubleshooter in Windows 10 does not work properly - it detects Windows XP SP2 compatible programs as Windows Vista SP2 compatible programs. Some of these programs *could* be run in Vista, but only with modifications - files being added back to the operating system that were in XP but phased out in Vista being put BACK into Vista, for instance. There is a REASON I still have an XP computer around the house that I never connect to the internet. It is for running programs that are XP compatible but that WILL NOT work on newer versions, no matter how you try to tweak things with the Compatibility troubleshooter, running as admin, running in limited color mode, and so on. If they cannot be bothered to maintain the compatibility list, what does that tell you about the true compatibility capabilities of the troubleshooter?


I would be posting this as a comment in another discussion, but not so surprisingly, the people at the top locked them to further comments. In the meantime, buyer beware! There is a reason I never upgrade to a newer operating system until programs I am using require it. Maybe if Microsoft had consulted with SecurROM before making certain changes it wouldn't have made some of my program cd's unusable with anything newer than XP. This is how people learn about things like Virtual Machines.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I suggest you to refer to the below link and check if the driver is compatible.

If not compatible, I suggest you to install the driver in compatibility mode on Windows 10.

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

• Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right click the driver installation file and select
  Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.
• Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
  
• Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
  OK.
• Try installing the driver and check.
