Windows 10: Completely Restrict Windows 10 from Downloading Updates Unless I Allow It

Just like the subject line says: I want to Completely Restrict Windows 10 from Downloading Updates Unless I Allow It


A huge problem with the Windows Update is that it downloads and possibly prepares the necessary update files regardless of Active Hours settings. If I say I don't want Windows Updates running during certain hours, it should not run one single line of code that pertains to updating --- other than the line of code saying, "Hey Windows, don't run anything to do with Updates right now!"

But Windows decides to download updates whenever it wants, and my machine becomes next to unusable. Disk usage pegs near 100% almost all the time. It chews up processor usage. It is a threat to everything I am working on.

I want Windows 10 to:

• ask me for permission to even check if my computer needs any updates
• ask me for permission before downloading any updates
• ask me for permission before doing any work at all with downloaded update files
  
• ask me for permission to do anything at all pertaining to Windows Update
• to be clear, don't let Windows Update do ANYTHING without getting my permission first

Fix this, please. Or tell me the fix that isn't easily available to the user in Settings.


I never, ever want Windows to do anything on its own regarding Updates, except ask me, "Do you want to check for updates?"

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thank you for trying to help , i did tried your suggestion but it did not work :/ , nothing seems to make it work on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709. In the meantime i have bought a new SoundBlasterX AE-5 and it did installed flawlessly , no problems whatsoever. it is up to Creative ( drivers ) and Microsoft ( bug fix ) to fix this huge bugs with Audio.

^This, then reboot and go to manually update windows. Find KB3035583 in the list of available updates, right-click and "Hide this update" so it doesn't get installed again next go around.
