Windows 10: Completey disable Skype for Business?

The locked thread does NOT cover my issue.


Fresh system, Skype for Business install.


First time I started it I got a splash screen telling me I'm to move to use Microsoft Teams.

I installed Microsoft Teams. Great, all is well... no problem talking to others that are still on SfB.


But, on every startup Microsoft Teams starts.... AND Skype for Business starts, and shows the same splash screen telling me to migrate to Microsoft Teams, while MT is running right there!?


I can't get to the options on SfB. I can't do anything to prevent this behaviour. This is very annoying. I just want SfB to GO AWAY! I can't uninstall (per IT) and I can't get to the options to tell the thing to stop starting on start up. You'd think MT would say, "Hey little buddy, I'm here. I got this. Go away."

Skype for business stuck at splash screen on startup

Just a suggestion... Do you have Microsoft Office installed? If you do Skype for Business is listed under your Microsoft Office folder in your start folder/ All apps. (that's where mine is listed) Right click on it, then choose Uninstall .

You Can install the regular Skype even if Skype for Business is installed.....I have both installed.

Thanks for your reply. First I suggest you check for updates for the Skype for Business client, as based on my tests, the issue has gone in the

latest version of Skype for Business.



To Stop Skype for Business from startup, please follow the instructions below:

1 . First please follow the instructions in the Step 1 part
in this article.

2 . If it doesn’t work, please open Task Manager and go to
Startup tab, right click on Skype for Business and click Disable.

3 . If it still doesn’t work, please follow the instructions in my reply on January, 7

in this link to delete the Lync registry value to see if it works.

Help->About Skype for Business and capture a screenshot of the detailed version number.

Completely disable skype on startup?

This is factually incorrect for current Skype. This option is unavailable. There appears to be no way to disable Skype from automatically running in the current version of WIndows 10,

I guess Microsoft knows better that we do what is good for us.
