"Compress to ZIP file" does not work in a subdirectory, but it does work on the Desktop

I am using Windows 11. I have it updated completely. When I right-click on a subfolder of the Desktop and choose "Compress to ZIP file", nothing happens. However, if I drag that same folder to the Desktop and then right-click and choose "Compress to ZIP file", then the folder gets compressed into a single zipped file. I created this video to demonstrate:* https://lms.devry.edu/lms/video/player.html?video=1_bd1qmtabThank you for your help!

    :)

    Unable to complete operation

    Access denied

'Compressed (zip) Folder' Doesnt Work - How Do I Fix it?

Without knowing more specifics on the files/folders in question, I can only speak generally. It sounds like you are extracting, working on the files (changing/adding/deleting/other), then wanting to re-compress (Zip again) back into the original Zip file. There should be a message asking you to confirm over-write or something to that effect. Are you seeing anything like that?

(temporarily, set aside the suggestions for 7-Zip, Winrar, etc. I prefer 7-Zip myself, but don't want to cloud or divert the issue right now)

    compressed Zip Folders

The word 'zip' means compressed. So calling something a zip compressed folder is redundant ;-)

The term originated with a very popular, old file compression program called Pkzip, which used the file extension .zip

All photos lose data when compressed; some more, some less, depending on the photo's format. Most popular photo formats used today - like .jpeg - are already compressed, so compressing them further won't reduce their file size much.

Here's something very important to know about compressing photos: Compression works by discarding redundant pixels - that's why the file size becomes smaller. Once discarded, those pixels can never be recovered, which means the quality of the image will
suffer if you compress it too much or too often.
