Windows 10: Computer Audio

The audio on my MSI GS65 Windows 10 has stopped working correctly. I can get it to work, but I have to follow these steps.


1. I go to 'Device Manager'

2. I expand 'Sound, video and game controllers'

3. I uninstall the RealtekR Audio device and delete the driver

4. I restart my computer

5. I repeat steps 1-4 until the audio begins to work usually takes around 2 restarts


~Audio is now working after step 5~


6. Windows prompts me to restart my computer to finish setting up my Realtek Audio device

7. Eventually I have to turn off my laptop and when I turn it back on, the audio isn't working and I have to do this all over again.


I've been dealing with this for the past week or so but I didn't want to have to completely reset my computer as my final exams were last week. However, I am now in a position where I have the ability to do so. Anything else I could try would be very much appreciated.

This problem began after I downloaded the anti-cheat for Valorant a new game developed by Riot Games in which their anti-cheat is in kernel. I have had this uninstalled for about a week or so.

We suggest that you run troubleshooting for Audio Recording by following these steps:

• Type troubleshooting on the search box.
• Click View all.
• Select Recording Audio.
• Follow the steps to troubleshoot Recording Audio.

Audio Problems

May I suggest to completely uninstall all Audio drivers listed in the Device manager including the headset. Please make sure to completely remove.

Here is how to do it.

Here the steps to completely remove a Device off your computer.

Step 1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.

Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound and Audio devices. Right-click the problematic device and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

Step 5. Reboot the computer.

Repeat the steps in all the Audio devices listed.

Then reboot. then test the headset again.
