Computer BSODs all the time at booting. Critical_Service_Failed

My problem is as follows:

System configuration: SSD(Win 10 64bit 1511) + HDD (Storage, No OS), uefi enabled

Today I have resumed my computer from hibernation and the first thing that came out was Avast notification to restart computer to finish installing an update. I have restarted but not through the option Avast gave me but restart when right clicking the start menu button because I needed to save my opened tabs in firefox. I am getting now constant BSODs with Critical_Service_Failed at windows blue logo and spinning dots animation when booting. Safe mode inaccesible, BSODs with 0xc0000021.

Windows has already restored some restore point at the automatic diagnose process, after that I have manually restored another few days old one from updating directX-no effect, did not say that it failed.

I booted Xubuntu Live from pendrive, booted fine and when I tried to open partition on SSD with windows it said that it's in an unsafe state/hibernated. I opened it read only, copied Minidump folder with 1 small 300KB dump file(is it strange, that it contained only 1 when I restarted and BSOD collected dump a few times?) and large 790MB MEMORY.dmp stored separately on the partition. BlueScreenView both red highlights ntoskrnl.exe.

Wikisend: free file sharing service smaller one, tell me if you need the big one

So, does the restart option when right clicking start menu in win 10 reboots clean or with some kind of fast boot hibernation automagic? Is there a key to press at booting or command for command line to enter when in advanced recovery options to skip restoring from hibernation(I would not risk deleting hiberfile.sys yet). All that assuming that windows wouldn't already try clean boot after a few crashes.

If that's not the case, what could I try? Restore did not help, did not connect anything new, Xubuntu boots, it booted with win 10 fine today, this restart messed something apparently.

:)

2. BSOD's All The Time

I have:

Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC

(The driver version is 2023.31.315.2016)

The driver was already installed when I purchased my computer. I never updated the driver since buying my computer until the BSODs began occuring. (So both this version and the last version I had were causing the BSODs)

3. BSOD's All The Time

Hi Lee,

For us to assist you further, please answer these questions:

• What are the solutions you tried to fix the issue?
• When are you experiencing the BSOD? Is it when doing a task or after a reboot?
• Have you tried turning your PC to Safe mode?
If so, does theBSOD still occur?

Regards.

Please read How to upload files

Restart does not include the hibernation part.
You can't 'skip' hibernation part, you can disable it

Sorry, I didn't realise that.

You need to either copy the dump into a zip or run the tool to upload the dump, the .dmp extension isn't supported by the site.

The 0xEF crash normally doesn't reveal this much, we're lucky, it shows an Avast driver as the cause.
You need to remove Avast to boot again, safe mode may be a good way to do it, instructions are below for booting into safe mode.
Code: ******************************************************************************* * * * Bugcheck Analysis * * * ******************************************************************************* Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information. BugCheck EF, {ffffe000575d1840, 0, 0, 0} *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for aswSP.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for aswSP.sys ETW minidump data unavailable Probably caused by : svchost.exe Followup: MachineOwner
In command prompt enter
Code: start msconfig
In msconfig,
• go to the boot tab,
• select 'safe mode',
• click apply > ok
• reboot if asked

Safe mode does not work, 0xc000021a. I'm no longer sure it the dumps are from normal boot or boot to safe mode or they're mixed-will there be difference in BSOD analysing ? You need the bigger 790MB dump?

Xubuntu recognised partition as hibernated/in unsafe state, is it or not? Could restore work properly on hibernated partition because if it worked why would Avast couse any trouble anymore? It would revert to a state when is was working properly.

The dump is from a month ago, just realised that looking at the date.

I can't answer those questions, I have no experience with Xubuntu and I have nothing with Avast.

Ahh sorry, I was looking at the date modified in windows explorer, not the filename, where could be the dumps stored? found only these. Do you know a way to verify if partition is still in hibernation? If hiberfil.sys is present?

Hiberfil.sys is a system file, you can only see it by viewing the hidden files, I know how to do that in Windows but not any other OS.

It is shown in Xubuntu, does its presence mean there is system hibernated or it just means that hibernation is turned on but not necessarily system is now hibernated? Isnt there a key to be pressed to stop booting from hibernation/hiberfil.sys? For win 7 it was f8 I think or it would ask you after crash to boot clean or try again to resume from hibernation.

The presence of the hibernation file does not per se mean hibernation is turned on, because this file is used for other purposes as well.
The functionality you want to disable doesn't exist in Windows 7.

The best way to disable hibernation for you is to temporary remove this file completely.

I cannot set the partition to read- write in Linux because of unsafe state and powercfg -h off does not work in command line in advanced recovery. What would be the command to remove the hiberfile directly? Will it let me?

I have requested help to see if others know different ways of removing the hibernation file.
