Windows 10: Computer is unable to connect to ethernet after waking up from Sleep mode

The problem: I connect to the Internet (and to my local network) via an Ethernet cable. However, when I wake my computer from Sleep mode, the computer is unable to connect with the Ethernet.


The only solution that works is restarting the computer.


Here are a few details about my computer:

Type: Dell Inspiron 2350

Operating system: Windows 10 Professional

Ethernet adapter = Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller


These are the fixes that I have tried. None have worked.


1) I ran every single Windows update, Dell update, Intel update, BIOS update, and Driver update. Everything is up to date, including the Realtek network adapter driver. There are no further updates I can make. This didn't fix it. Same issue.


2) I ran the the "Troubleshooting" option. It detects the problem, but it cannot fix it.


3) I went to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Realtek PCIe GBE > Power Management and I have unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" This didn't fix it. Same issue.


4) Similarly, I went to Device Manager > Network Adapters > Realtek PCIe GBE > Advanced, where I disabled "Energy Efficient Ethernet" and I made sure "Wake on Magic Packet" is enabled. This didn't fix it. Same issue.


5) I changed the computer's power options to select "High performance"


6) I bought a new Ethernet cable. This didn't fix it. Same issue.


Are there any solutions that work, other than doing a full restart?

No internet when computer wakes from sleep mode

No Internet when computer wakes from sleep mode or from cold start until I disable the Local area connection and then enable it.

When I run the diagnostic after it fixes the connection it says this: Local Area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration - Fixed

But its not fixed. Every time I wake my computer up from sleep mode after its been in sleep mode for a few hours I have to disable and then enable the Local area connection.

When the computer wakes up it has a yellow triangle warning of limited or no internet access. So I have to do the above every time I wake it up.

Things I've done so far: Update drivers, No fix.

 

Sleep Mode Disconnects Ethernet Internet Connection - An Oldie but a Goodie

There's a possibility that your Ethernet connection is not enabled to wake on magic packet. For us to isolate this, let's look into the advanced settings of your network adapter. Follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Device Manager > Network adapters.
2. Right-click on your Ethernet connection and click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Property, scroll down and select Wake on magic packet.
5. Set the value to Enabled.
6. Click OK.

Once done, try to observe if Ethernet connection still disconnects if put to sleep mode.

Waking up from sleep mode

• Can you explain further what you are experiencing? Were you able to get to the lock screen after waking from Sleep mode?
• Are you using a laptop or a desktop computer?
• When did the issue start to occur? Did it happen after installing an update, an app, or a driver?
