Computer Issue or...

Hi, I'm having a couple of issues with my HP laptop. I'm running Windows 10, which was just updated three days ago, but the problems have been ongoing for months. I'm a heavy print-at-home person. I keep my computer up-to-date on updates, drivers, anti-viruses, malware, etc because I'm a writer. I also like to keep it clean of browsing data, cache, cookies, history, etc, to keep it from slowing down. I assume in my OCD of keeping it "cleaned out", I must have deleted something I shouldn't have. When I go to print, I receive this message: "We've detected a Security Issue." Please exit any screenshot software or virtual machines you may be running and make sure your printer is not set to a PDF writer. and then try printing again." To my knowledge, I don't have such software installed. I was told to get a registry cleaner, but as I was reading on some of the Microsoft forums, that doesn't sound like a good idea. I as well receive an Error 202 message on several sights. My second issue, since the update, I cannot use the PIN option to sign-in. It's only giving me the password option. I have memory issues so, I need the PIN option. I'm completely lost as to what to do. If someone could help, I would be ever so grateful. Thank you.

:)

I ran across an article about Windows Versions not matching. I checked mine and mine as well do not match. Question 1: Have you found it to be common when others have upgraded to Windows 10, for this to happen? Question 2: Could this be causing my documents/personal
files to abruptly delete themselves? Question 3: Could this be giving me the error messages 202 & 87? Question 4 (the biggie) How do I solve it?

Windows Version 1703 (OS Build 15063.674)

Hi Riley14 and welcome to Tenforums.

First, it's not a good idea to open same threads in different subforums. I think it's against the forum rules...

Is that problem with printing only from specific application, or system wide (i.e., can you print from Office or your browser..)

I found some similar problems on around the internet, but all of them connected to printing of some coupons (from browser..)

5. I think as a precaution and just to rule it out, I would run a virus scan with whatever antivirus you have installed, preferably two different ones like Malwarebytes and Windows Defender. After this, I would do some checking for corruption and file system issues.

Checking For System Corruption
Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Information As with anything like this, check your system for corruption. Corruption of your system can cause a whole host of odd errors and behaviors.

Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Step One
Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Run SFC (System File Checker) Open an admin Command Prompt and type: Code: sfc /scannow
This should fix any system file corruption if there is any.

Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Step Two
Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Run DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool) Using the same Command Prompt type: Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
This should fix any component store corruption.
Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Note If the sfc command fails, run this command then try Step One again. Sometimes this will fix sfc errors.

Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Step Three
Computer Issue or... [IMG]
Run CHKDSK (Disk Checker) Using the same Command Prompt, type Code: chkdsk C: /scan
This will let you know if there are any errors in the file system itself. If it comes up with errors, type Code: chkdsk C: /F /R
This command will perform a more thorough check and attempt to fix any errors and recover any data from bad sectors (if any exist.)

Note Running this command will require you to restart. After restarting this will run. After it does, you will need to use the event viewer to view the log. How To Read CHKDSK Log Using Event Viewer

Me too. The '...make sure your printer is not set to a PDF writer' bit might be relevant (I suspect those coupons want make sure you're making a single paper print, not a pdf to make multiple copies).

Don't forget that Windows 10 has a 'Microsoft Print to PDF' printer built in. If that is the default printer it may be causing this message. Windows can automatically set the default printer to the last one you used. See:
Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > Let Windows manage my default printer.

I do appreciate your suggestion. Hopefully, it works out better than the one I received earlier... As for printing coupons??? I've been trying to print the research background, which I have done, only to come up with the Error messages.
