I have a very simple suggestion:

The next time you put your computer to sleep,
physically disconnect it from all networks: The Internet, your LAN, Bluetooth, everything.
See if it still wakes up by itself.

Pirx - Thanks - I have checked every task schedule and all have wake up unticked. I have found this in the Task Scheduler Maintenance but not sure what it is.
    NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\.NET Framework\.NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319 64 Critical - Maintenance wake-up requested
However all maintenance tasks are changing state the next second. A wake up would take longer than 1 second so I assume it's not that.

Raner - Have opened every item in Device Manager and none have wake-up enabled. Thanks.

Eksy61 - That could be worth a try even though Wake on LAN is disabled. I will try that tonight. I will disconnect the router to PC cable and the Blutooth receiver. Thanks.

No, but that gives me another idea.

Unless you disabled Automatic Maintenance, Windows does a lot of scheduled maintenance tasks while the computer is idle. I was surprised to find Windows waking up my PC in the middle of the night to install drivers and so forth.

To see just when all the maintenance tasks are scheduled, start an elevated Command Prompt (administrator privileges). Enter the command
    schtasks /query

For example, on my PC, this command reveals the following:

    SpeechModelDownloadTask: 12:00 AM
    Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser: 3:26 AM
    Office Automatic Updates: 4:47 AM

If my PC is asleep, Windows will likely wake it up to run these tasks.

Hi Eksy61 - Good idea but the automatic maintenance has the wake up box unticked. I also have a time of 1900 set but all the wake up times happen at any time of day or night.
I note the tick box states wake up my computer at the scheduled time which is 1900. I wonder if that means it will wake the computer at any time other than 1900. Sounds unlikely but I'm grasping at straws here.

I should add, using your command there are several items scheduled for tonight. I will make a note of the scheduled times and see if those times match a wake up tonight.

Did you enable task scheduler's logging facility as I had suggested? You need to go Applications and Services Logs->Microsoft->Windows->Task Scheduler in Event Viewer, right-click on the Operational log and enable it. This will force Task Scheduler to log all of its operations continuously. Still a shot on the dark, but if it is something that Task Scheduler initiates, that log will show it.

Hi Pirx - Sorry. Forgot to mention it. Trying so many things. Yes I did enable the log immediately after I last woke the computer and loads of tasks were performed immediately as you would expect after a manual wake-up.
Strangely last night, the computer remained asleep. I don't think I have done anything to fix it. Everything I have done is investigative. I will check the log next time it wakes itself.

Heh, I think your system has figured out you're onto it and it will behave from here on out... *chuckle
Just kidding, of course. I'm curious as to what you find. Sorry, I know this one must annoy the heck out of you, but for the independent observer it's interesting.

Just to update you guys - The computer has not woken up since the last post. It sleeps every night and several times a day in between me using it. I'm sure it will wake on it's own again as I have not changed any settings yet. When it does I will check the logs again and post my findings. I think Pirx was correct in his last post......it's on to me. *Wink

Thanks Cromax but I use Logitech which has wake-up disabled.

My little OptiPlex does that too but since it's my back-up computer I'm not going to try to correct it.

  12. Thanks a lot guys for sharing.

    Halfway there!

Was having a similar issue and HID keyboard and mouse were enabled. Other parameters are OK.

Now it works, but won't wake-up with keyboard and/or mouse. Only when clicking half a second on the power switch.

    Any idea?

I still have that problem too on my xpx8920 dell. Go into power options, uncheck hybrid sleep. That worked last time but someone in here said I have to go into the BIOS to make another change............let me know.

  14. Thanks for replying,

Allow hybrid sleep was On. Same issue when Off. Power option is set to high performance.
I don't see anything in BIOS...

The popular opinion is that high performance is useless, kinda' like running around with the pedal to the metal when you could just step on the gas when you need it. Do a search to find that guy with the BIOS info. He said something about selecting wake mode in there, I need to fix mine soon also. Uncheck hybrid and hibernate modes.
