Computer Randomly Restarting Without BSOD in Wolfenstein II

I know, it's probably not necessarily the fault of the game, but my computer works with almost all other games, so here it is. In case the specs I've given the forums aren't enough, here's my msinfo and dxdiag: DxDiag.txt msinfo32.txt

I just built a new computer, and when I tried to start playing Wolfenstein II, I ran into an issue where my computer would randomly just restart after a few minutes of gameplay. This has happened, without fail, every time I've played the game on this computer. I'm pretty sure it isn't a hardware issue- I've been able to run equally intensive games, such as Battlefield 1, with no issues whatsoever, and after doing a GPU benchmark, nothing melted inside the case. As I said in the title, there's no BSOD, and no error code that I can find. Additionally, when the restart happens, the front panel LED stays on- I'm not sure if that's worth anything, but I supposed I should mention it. The only other game I've played so far with this issue was DOOM 2016, though it was much less common (read: once in the space of a half hour, instead of 5 or 6 times). I've tried plugging my power cable into the wall directly instead of a power strip, but the issues persisted after that. The only idea I have at this point is that it has something to do with Vulkan API, since both DOOM and Wolfenstein II run Vulkan, but I honestly have no clue at this point. And yes, I have been told that software usually doesn't cause random restarts like this, but I can't find any other possible cause. Thank you!

    :)

It's still blue screening randomly. I see the BSOD, my computer restarts, and i log back in. 5-10 minutes later it BSOD's again.

Xbox One S controller causing major performance problems in many games when connected via bluetooth. Need dev attention. Widespread, many examples within.

I have the same issue, i bought an xbox one S controller recently and at first performed very well but then i noticed the fps loss and stutter in wolfenstein II. I thought it was the batteries but after replacing them the issue continued... What is causing
this? This didn't happen with the xbox 360 controller, i regret changing to this thing...

I've got to make sure of a few things hardware wise first before we move to anything software related first. Have you carefully examined your motherboard, GPU, ram sticks to make sure nothing is loose here and there? And if that's taken care of, what are the temperatures for your GPU and CPU, etc? If you haven't thoroughly tested it, then we shall do it.

Mobo, GPU and RAM were all in there tight, but i made sure to push the GPU and the RAM into their respective slots a bit more, just to be safe. I decided to play a match of BF1 and look at my temperatures throughout using Corsair Link- my CPU was reporting around 40 degrees C, and my GPU around 60 degrees C, with the GPU fans running and the Corsair cooler running as well on the CPU. The highest, according to the graphs, were 51 C on the CPU, and 59 on the GPU.

It definitely doesn't sound like an overheating problem. Have you tried a different wall socket before?

    Now the Windows part;

    • Do you have shadow play installed, the one that comes with Nvidia GeForce Experience?

    • Do you also use the Xbox Game DVR app?

If yes, then try disabling/turning off both of them for the time being as we narrow down everything.

I disabled everything in the settings page for Xbox Game DVR, and running regedit confirmed that it was off. As for shadow play, no, I would never install that Computer Randomly Restarting Without BSOD in Wolfenstein II :p

I tried the game again with those off, and it still restarted, but at least they're definitely off!

Have you reinstalled WIndows somewhere between last game that caused restarts in 2016 and now? I get the feeling that the hardware is the itchy part here. You have done memory tests yet? Have you tried a substitute GPU to see if it still caused unwanted restarts? There could be so many factors going into this right now. Your PSU is working fine right?

This Windows install (and the drivers) is fresh from just last week, though I did make the installation media using a laptop made for Windows 8 that I'd upgraded to 10 during that free upgrade period. I'm not sure if I have a GPU anywhere that I can easily substitute. The PSU seems to be working fine, and a memory test turned up no errors.

EDIT: Interestingly enough, I decided to test The New Order out as well: exact same issue.

Alright, now that you've told me you got Windows 10 reinstalled, makes me suspicious of the GPU and PSU even more, we'll eventually stress test them because they can seem stable at a certain stage then something happens when they're pushed to the test, we'll look into it. Reason being that I've reinstalled W10 personally so many times that I haven't been encountered with an option that prompted me to restart Windows while playing games or involuntarily.

How's your bios by the way? Is it up to date?

  11. I've noticed you only got a 550w psu.. according to your computer specs you got posted on here.. from my past experience having a similar issue.. upgrading from my old 500w to 1000w( overkill a bit.. ) but it solved my issue.. i think an 850w would be the perfect upgrade and would most likely solve your issue.

I bought all these parts around Christmas, so unless updates have come out in the last two weeks, the BIOS should be up to date. My PC Part Picker ( System Builder - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6GHz 6-Core, GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series, Define S ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker ) says that the computer should reach 361W max, but honestly, the PSU is my biggest suspect at this point.

EDIT: I have noticed that the files for Vulkan and the files for Wolfenstein and DOOM are on different hard drives. I doubt that's an issue, but I guess it's worth noting?

As long as the games work then it's not a hard drive issue, the red flag is on the PSU because I notice the games you played were demanding, I'd use a substitute PSU if I were you.

Yeah, that was my assumption. I have an old Corsair 500w I might be able to use, would that be worth it, or should I drop a bit of money and get an 850w like Brandon suggested? Thank you so much for helping me out, by the way!

Please run this log collector to troubleshoot the computer files:
    log collector v2-beta06.zip

View the bios and post 3.3, 5, and 12 voltages
    Post CPU frequency and voltage
