Windows 10: Computer restarts when idle after upgrade to Windows 10

I think I have solved problem by installing WIndows 10 again and disabling sleep and now instead of going to sleep my computer goes to hibernate mode. I have also localised this malfunction in driver of Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, after I uninstall the driver Windows's own sleep function works but the screen settings are horrible... Intel should update their driver because it's bad that it won't work. So I think this Intel stupid driver is that is causing all of these failures...

 

I am having exactly the same problem-

 

Take a look at your Windows Update log. I found that mine corresponds with my error log EXACTLY, and I can't believe that's a coincidence.

My IT friend said that Windows Update scans for inactivity and chooses then to download and install updates, then automatically restarts afterward.

I can't confirm but I would wager a guess that this is the root of the problem.

He recommended setting Windows Updates to "Notify me to schedule restart" and changing power settings to "High Performance". So far, so good, but I will report back if I have the problem again.

EDIT: oh and for what it's worth, I have an MSI mobo, AMD processor, GSKILL ram.

 

Hmm it seems my issue is in the same vein. My ram is 1866 and the PSU is a generic 500watt cooler master that came with the case. Other specs listed. My compy restarts when I come back from sleep or hibernate mode no blue screen, I only have 3 games. Hitman Absolution will play the current cut scene the game is saved at. As soon as game play begins, the compy restarts. Second game The Lost Mythologies, I haven't even played, I load it, it pops up in a window, computer freezes, have to restart. Third game, didn't even try out of frustration. NOW I can't tell if its my gpu causing the issue because the restarting didn't begin until I installed it. OR if part of the problem is the multitude of BSOD errors on STARTUP I've gotten since I first booted on XMAS of last year. I've manually updated every driver through device manager and uninstalled the inter-grated graphics to see if that'd make a difference in favor of the nvidia drivers. Nothing. I'm at a total loss and this is my first build.

 

-- SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME --

Have encountered blue screening/unexpected restarting after the clean installation of Windows 10 on a number of different machine builds, with a number of different model Nvidia graphics cards (untested with AMD/Radeon cards).

After a clean install of Windows 10, I would always install the official Nvidia drivers taken from the Nvidia website BEFORE running Windows Update.

However, it is now believed that at least one of the official Microsoft updates, when installed AFTER the Nvidia drivers have already been installed, experiences a conflict with the Nvidia drivers that causes the blue screening/restarting. If the Nvidia drivers are then uninstalled and reinstalled, the blue screening/restarting stops.

It is therefore recommended to install the Nvidia display drivers ONLY AFTER all of the official Microsoft updates have been installed.

It may also be the case that when installing via Windows Update that the Nvidia drivers aren't the very last item installed (unfortunately Windows 10 doesn't allow the user to be selective with updates), in which case the problem may still persist. The Nvidia drivers would then need to be uninstalled and reinstalled once more.

It has also been suggested by others that there may also be an issue with sleep/hibernation settings causing blue screening/restarting, particularly if they are set to 'Never'.

So, even if these settings are to be disabled, they should be set to the maximum time length of 9999999 minutes (which equates to 19 years, so effectively never).

STEPS:
- Right-click 'Start' menu
- Control Panel
- System and Security
- Power Options
- (Alongside 'Balanced') Change plan settings
- Change advanced power settings
- Change various settings under: 'Hard disk', 'Sleep' and 'Display' to turn off after 9999999 minutes

 

I've had this happen to me a total of 12 times over the last five months, since installing Win 10 on a HP Pavilion laptop. The laptop itself was only a few months old at the time. It's all AMD so I don't think it is hardware related. I've seen it happen three times prior to this a.m. and the computer has always been on for a long time, once when idle, once while on the internet and once while working on a model in a 3D modeling program (NOT a good thing.) This morning the computer had been on less than five minutes when it occurred.

I'll try the 19 year suggestion above and see if that works, thanks. If it happens again after the change I'll let you guys know.

 

Well, on a laptop the 19 year suggestion wont work. Different options and fixed settings. I'll keep looking.
