Windows 10: Computer Slow, Can't Update

The past few days, my computer has been experiencing awful slowness - programs taking forever to open, browser pages loading extra-slow, when I try to click to a browser tab or type something in a Word document it will go Not Responding for several seconds before finally going through, YouTube videos will sometimes be choppy with the video lagging behind the audio...



Checking Task Manager shows high Disk Usage, mostly from something simply called "System".



The last couple times something like this happened, the problem mysteriously went away once my computer downloaded an update. However, this time no updates have happened yet. When I open Settings and have it check for updates (it says it was last "checked" mid-February), it ends up giving me an error code - usually 0x800705b4, but I also got 0x8024a21e - and tells me it can't check for updates.



I've had this computer since July 2016. Could it already be dying?

From the screenshot that you have provided, I understood that it’s not the issue with the disk usage. The slowness might be due to the memory usage.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to run maintenance task and check if it helps.
