Sorry for the delay; I don't have a lot of spare time with classes on.
I still need to check to see if the nVidia card is causing this, and I'll run that memory test as soon as I get a spare USB drive.

Just so you know, I tried to run an Elementary OS Live CD and when I suspended that one, as soon as it woke up it booted into Windows. So I'm guessing this is more leaning towards the hardware being at fault.
I'll get around to those tests soon, and I'll update as soon as I can (this weekend is pretty stacked)
Thanks for the replies, everything you have helps a lot!

To test your hardware you can use a utility disk such as Hiren's Boot CD. It contains memory tests, hard disks tests and tests for the remaining hardware. After making sure your hardware is OK, try to update to latest nVidia driver before the upgrade. This way Windows Update will leave it alone as it won't find anything newer to install. When successfully in Windows 10 you may want to install latest Windows 10 driver, although it is not necessary.

Sorry I haven't been able to reply quicker. Life.

I did the memtestx86 preboot scan and it seemed to pass through with no errors.
It still has the problem (including in Ubuntu 15.10).

I'm starting to think it's a video hardware problem. I've been getting through it fine, but if no-one has any other ideas on how or why this machine keeps behaving this way I might take it to have it seen by someone.
    I'll run another memtest "soon".

Thanks for the help in the meantime1

I read in another post that a guy having problems had set the resources (IRQ etc) in BIOS to manual. The problem was fixed after changing that to auto. Have a look if this is your case as well.

Where do I go about doing that? I can't seem to find an auto mode except for USB suspend or quick-charge whatever.

It depends on BIOS. Read motherboard User Manual. It usually reads "Resources are controlled by" and you select auto or manual.

Sorry for the gap, life has been busy.

I just wiped my hard drive, and reinstalled Windows 10 and a lot of drivers, and it still decides it won't wake up with my programs open.

I read it might be the Power4Gear program, but uninstalling that doesn't change much.

Are there any other ASUS programs or drivers you think could be causing this issue?

I would just install the drivers and avoid any utility unless it is absolutely necessary

Funny thing: I managed to fix it.

I saw here that reflashing the BIOS/UEFI component fixed it for someone else, so using the WinFlash utility from ASUS I managed to reflash v209 of the BIOS/UEFI. When I put it to sleep, it wakes up with the session now!

But now it takes a while for it to sleep. Pretty sure there are already threads for that though.

Thanks a bunch guys for the help! Appreciate it a lot!

If it takes a while to sleeps it means that some application (probably antivirus) is keeping it busy. Try disabling antivirus and put it to sleep.
