Okay. Thanks. It will only be closed when the computer is powered down.

  2. Unfortunately, the monitor is too tall for the top to be closed. So, we're just going to leave it open all of the time. I will post pictures of it in a little while.

You could lower it to it's side.

I agree. Although the computer will be warm immediately it is turned off and the fan would not be running to cool it, I think the resudual heat would probably not be enough to cause general overheating problems after the roll-top lid is closed. Oops! Just noticed that desk cover will have to be left open, but here goes anyway.

However, lets look a bit more closely from the point of view of a non-computer electrical amd mechanical engineer. Most of the heat generated in a computer comes from within chips and similar, especially the microprocessor. The heat is generated within the body of the microprocessor itself. That heat is conducted away to the heat sink, and the heat there is in turn conducted away by the air from the fan. Immediately the fan is turned off the air stops and it is likely that the heatsink will rise in temperature. This results in it not conducting away as much heat from the chip (because the temperature difference between the chip and the heatsink will become lower and so will the rate of heat flow fall.) The temperature of the chip will therefore rise.

But that would happen if the comp. was shutdown when not in a closed desk. The microprocessor and its cooling system is already enclosed in the computer case and I don't think an additional enclosure (the desk) would make any significant difference. (Wrapping the computer in a thick blanket might not be wise!)

Let it stay horizontal instead of vertical like that, like old ones used to. That way you'd be able to close the roll top.

  9. Are you talking about the tower?

Yes, the tower. There's no reason a tower like that can't be placed on it's side.

  11. @CountMike, I really don't feel comfortable doing that. The monitor also causes interference from keeping the roll top from closing. If I had something underneath the desk to hold the tower then that would be great. As far as the monitor, I don't know what to do with it since it's so tall.

  12. If you wish an "Under Desk Tower Support" google it or try CDW or bestbuy-$30-50.

If you have a CPU cooler coming out of the side of the computer don't block with your knee or the side drawers.

With me it just became less of a hassle to mount monitor above desk, then across the Living Room 48" display and too many hours on the thing.

And eye surgery suddenly required monitor 12 feet away for clarity.

That's my problem. I need glasses but can't afford them right now. I could put the monitor up there, but then I couldn't see it well. That's why we have it on the desk. My mom likes it on the desk anyways. I mean... it's not a big deal to keep the roll top open at all times, but I would like to close it sometimes. Right now, I guess that's not an option.

  14. Have an idea then, what make and model #, is your computer.

Does it have a HDMI port at the back for video/audio?

Or does it have an empty slot on the interior bus for a new card?

Your initial pictures had a large screen tv on top of the desk.

Does it also have a HDMI PORT on it?

You might be able depending upon make and model #, just use your TV for monitor, and wireless keyboard and mouse for computer.

Hang computer or put it on top rail above the roll top.

All problems solved with new patch cord, or card. $6 for cord or $40-50 for new video card if needed.

Most newer pc's have hdmi ports on the back, as do laptops

No need to worry about ability to close roll top, or ability to see a small monitor on desktop.

  15. It's an Acer Aspire AXC-603G-UW12 Desktop PC. It has an HDMI port on the back. I am not sure about the empty slot. Yes, that TV was on it when it was at the seller's house. That was his TV, not mine.
