Windows 10: Configure Taskbars on Dual Monitors

I tried searching for info on the forum, but I guess it doesn't like Pale Moon as I got no (0) results for several queries.

At TAFE, several rooms have dual monitor PCs set up with W10 (b10240) installed.
There is one decent monitor and one small monitor.

Each monitor has a Taskbar showing.
However when I change the "Taskbar buttons:" option to "Combine when taskbar is full", only the #1 monitor actually changes to that setting.

The #2 monitor retains the awful "Always combine, hide labels" view.
If I check the Taskbar Properties (on the #2 monitor) it shows that it is set to "Combine when taskbar is full".

As I use a W10IP VM and only have one monitor, can someone tell me how I can make both Taskbars display the same way?

Windows cannot be installed on your TV, but you could connect it as a second monitor or primary monitor. See how to setup a dual display configuration:

Notice one shows cortana and the other one doesn't, especially the one on the extended monitor. I ended up turning off the start menu to the second display. I don't know why 2 taskbars are needed.

 

I run 3 monitors, Cortana shows on all three. I have mine set to only show all Icons on the main screen. On my two other monitors only programs running on that monitor show an Icon. Check your "Buttons on other taskbar setting" at the bottom. Maybe that's what is messing things up for you.

 

I find it easier to click on a button that is on the screen that the mouse pointer is currently on.

I don't recall seeing the second DropDown box (maybe I'm going blind). *Confused

I'll be able to check tomorrow (I should be able to get access to the same dual monitor PC).

 

Funny. When 10240 was first installed, "RTM initial release" the second taskbar didn't have cortana, at least not on my setup. Not sure on 10586. I only run single monitor setup now.

Now running 10586.164

 

Cortana is showing on both of my taskbars, as is Task View. Also, the three active programs show on both; looking at Alpha's screenie, I could change to Taskbar where window is open, but I kinda like the default setting.

 

I have all my use every day programs and apps pinned to my main taskbar. I launch them all from there. When I launch them they open on different monitors. (The last one they were on when closed). An second Icon goes with them and shows on the monitor they are open on. What can I say, it works for me. If I minimize something I can still see what monitor it is actually on. There are times I want to open my start menu on one of my other monitors so having a taskbar there with an easily clickable button works for me. YMMV. *Wink

 

I finally got to check the PC and the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window matches your picture.

I thought that my eyesight was getting bad, but I didn't think it was that far gone. *Redface *Biggrin

 

It's easy enough to miss that bottom option. Especially if your used to only using one monitor. That window may seem deceiving too, opening it on a second monitor doesn't change anything, which is what I think you were expecting. You got it figured out now though so you should be all set.
